Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the general direction of the Manager-Power Generation Operations, supervises and is responsible for the operation of the power station generation and air pollution control equipment. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Directs the ongoing operations of power stations. Directs all power station activities during all other-than-normal working hours. 5. Coordinates load requirements with the system dispatcher and/or SPP to match system power needs with station generation capabilities. Ensures all unit parameters are communicated to The Energy Authority (TEA) and updated on SharePoint. May coordinate activities of on-site contractors and supplier deliveries. 6. Periodically tours station, combustion turbines, and outplant facilities to inspect machinery and equipment. Checks performance of boiler(s), turbine-generators, and all related operating equipment. Maintains oversight of the proper operating and timely maintenance of operating equipment. 7. Assures adherence to Utility policy, safety operating rules, and non-discrimination/Affirmative Action Plans. 8. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by management. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: * Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, business, or an applicable related field from an accredited college or university required. Exceptional power generation operations experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree on a year for year basis. Licensing/Certification: Must have a valid driver's license (minimum Class F). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Advanced knowledge of mechanical aptitude. Physical Requirements: Pushing, pulling, stooping, lifting 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, working at heights, and being able to visually differentiate between color-coded electrical and electronic equipment associated with this job. Work within the rated capacity of the Utility's aerial lifts, ladders, fall restraint devices, and/or other related equipment. Able to work at heights on plant structures. Working Conditions: Normal office and power station environment with the inherent noise and heat of large machinery and fugitive dust and fumes from the coal fuel. In order to successfully supervise subordinate employees, the work may be inside or outside of plant buildings in all types of weather as required. May work in proximity to toxic and corrosive chemicals. May be required to wear a respirator seal during annual fit testing of respiratory protection and when required to wear the respirator on the job.
