Public Relations Specialist IV

A Public Relations Specialist IV is a senior-level professional responsible for developing and executing campaigns, providing event support, and creating and editing written content ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center's mission and goals. This role supports a public affairs government contract and involves conducting research, developing content strategies, and ensuring that all materials adhere to editorial standards and style guides. The Public Relations Specialist IV performs required functions independently with minimal supervision and collaborates with clients and stakeholders to align organizational strategies with public affairs material. This role is primarily remote unless contract support is requested based on the needs of the task or deliverable.

Pay commensurate with experience.

Public Relations Specialist IV Responsibilities Include:

  • Identify opportunities and develop and execute communication products and events for internal and external audiences, including AFIMSC employees, Department of the Air Force stakeholders, public audiences, etc.
  • Assess and analyze social media channel effectiveness and make and implement recommendations for improvement.
  • Support, plan and execute events to enhance public understanding of programs which may include coordination, scheduling and developing agendas, photography support, and the development and production of communication products.
  • Produce and edit written content for a variety of audiences and platforms, to include web articles, newsletters, social media, messaging packets, reports, briefings/slide decks, and press releases, ensuring all materials are free of errors.
  • Conduct research to gather information, verify facts, and ensure content is accurate and relevant.
  • Oversee the editing and review process, managing input from various stakeholders to finalize drafts.
  • Incorporate feedback into content revisions to ensure client and/or stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Archive historical documents, photos, and written and video products.
  • Coordinate and conduct interviews with stakeholders and subject matter experts to translate complex information into clear messaging for public consumption.
  • Ensure that content aligns with the organization's tone, style, and branding.
  • Work closely with contractors, clients, and stakeholders to develop content that supports organizational goals and initiatives.
  • Prioritize tasks and coordinate with contractors, clients and stakeholders to meet deadlines and project milestones.
  • Communicate with clients and stakeholders to clarify content requirements and expectations.
  • Monitor news coverage and media trends to assess public perception and adjust messaging as necessary.
  • Track and report on the effectiveness of campaigns and web content using analytics tools and metrics like Meltwater, DVIDS and Buffer.
  • Mentor junior PR staff, providing guidance and feedback to help develop their skills.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Public Relations Specialist IV Requirements:

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (public relations, communications, journalism, etc.) or 10+ years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Completion of the Defense Information School (DINFOS) basic journalism or communications programs may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Ability to perform required functions independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in handling media inquiries, pitching stories, and securing positive media coverage.
  • Strong writing skills for creating press releases, news articles, newsletters, social media posts, messaging packets and website content.
  • Experience mentoring junior PR professionals and leading projects from inception to completion.
  • Experience in event planning and coordination.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
  • Ability to travel for event support.
  • Photography experience.

Public Relations Specialist IV Preferred:

  • Experience developing and executing comprehensive PR campaigns.
  • Familiarity with public inquiries and digital communication strategies.
  • Ability to analyze public perception, media trends, and PR campaign effectiveness.
