Description

The Quality Engineer's role supports quality assurance/control functions in the mill, including production support, product analysis, product/material disposition, lab operation/maintenance, material certification and teammate training. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or abilities required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Writes and maintains quality documentation,
  • Provides support and training as required to ensure compliance with established procedures,
  • Responsible for the standardization, accuracy, reliability and maintenance of analytical equipment,
  • Performs chemical analysis of final steel samples and heat certifications,
  • Has authority to disposition products/material,
  • Supports final certifications of product quality,
  • Provides back up support to Quality Assurance Manager as needed,
  • Performs other duties, assignments and projects as required, including, but not limited to, providing technical support for all phases of steelmaking operations, including melting, teeming, and thermal handling of ingots, and
  • Acts as backup ENS Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)


EDUCATION



  • Bachelor of Science in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering, or Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or a commensurate level of related experience/education.


EXPERIENCE



  • 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably steelmaking preferred or a commensurate level of related experience/education

  • The ability to concisely communicate to internal and external customers in written or verbal format
  • The ability to present comprehensive factual data to diverse audiences
  • Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills,
  • Strong computer skills,
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and multi-tasking abilities and
  • Ability to work outside of normal work hours to meet business needs including travel if deemed necessary
