What is the opportunity?

Assist with the US tax compliance process and other governance matters for RBC and affiliated companies doing business in the US with a focus on sales and use tax and other state and local tax matters, primarily related to RBC's indirect tax responsibilities.

What will you do?

  • Prepare and/or review sales and use tax returns and other indirect tax filings and obligations such as commercial activity or gross receipts taxes. May also include preparation and/or review of corporate income tax returns.
  • Collaborate with business partners and other internal stakeholders to help manage sales and use tax audit activity and provide support for and liaise with state and local authorities on tax disputes.
  • Provide technical support and work with Tax and Finance personnel to ensure proper booking of sales and use tax expense for financial statement purposes.
  • Collaborate with internal partners and external advisors to validate sales and use tax expense liabilities and determine tax refund opportunities.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of process improvements, and identification of tax technology best practices while leveraging available applications in collaboration with others within and outside of Tax.
  • Provide advice on sales and use tax or other indirect tax implications of RBC's business activities in the US and monitor sales and use tax legislative and regulatory developments.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Minimum ~4 years of experience in a Big Four or other public accounting firm or equivalent industry.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with tax software systems (ie OneSource RS) is a plus, as is experience with importing and exporting data between systems.
  • Experience in process improvement and technological automation.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with US sales and use taxes and indirect taxes in multiple jurisdictions.

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $100,000-$160,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
