Supervisor Area Operations

Basic Function

Oversees and directs one or more aspects of the Operations Department. Reports to the Operations Manager.

Job Duties

  • Be the safety steward of the operating department and the Refinery.
  • Understand major process limitations for all units.
  • Understand product specifications and ensure board operators are monitoring and meeting desired specifications.
  • Identify potential hazards and drive corrective action in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to environmental limits and know where to find the limits.
  • Supervise corrective actions to restore environmental compliance.
  • Respond and direct field personnel in emergency situations.
  • Account for the competency of and training of crew.
  • Supervise turnaround activities as needed for the operations department.
  • Assist and supervise unit personnel with writing and monitoring service requests as needed.
  • Possess unit specific knowledge of process dynamics and reactions, council, and mentor operators.
  • Troubleshoot process dynamics and reactions, assist operators in troubleshooting.
  • Monitor, report,and understand the economic drivers for each unit.
  • Develop operating procedures in cooperationwith others.
  • Communicate effectively withoperators, supervisors, and managers.
  • Comply with the process safety management plan for process safety management elements assigned to this position.
  • Guide and direct shift workers for all units to remain safe, in compliance, on spec, and meeting targets.
  • Manage and callout maintenance, safety, unit supervisors, engineers, and other operations management when needed. Lead by example.
  • Assist with evaluations and helpresolveprocess unit problems.
  • Monitorall process data, lab data, and operational data for assigned area.
  • Responsible for setting and managing hourly schedules via KRONOS, Workforce,or similar timekeepingprograms to ensure shift coverage at all times.
  • Follow through on commitments made to others.
  • Create and maintain a neat, clean, and well-organized professional looking work area.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

Experience

A minimum of eight years of progressive oil refining on-the-job experience is required. Previous supervisory experience required.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering is required.

Required Skills

Ability to lead and direct the work of other associates. Proficient with spreadsheet, presentation and word processing applications, strong planning, problem-solving, interpersonal, organizational, leadership, analytical, verbal and written communication skills. General understanding of corporate governance practices, handling regulatory compliance including State, Federal, and various other government authorities. Proven leadership skills including mentoring, decision making, delegation, and motivating others.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

A significant amount of experience in refining / process engineering is preferred.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Responsible for the oversight of employees.

Work Conditions

Office and refinery based. Outdoor duties under wet and/or oil contaminated conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions. Industrial environment, including, but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and rotating equipment.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require lifting up to 50 lbs, sitting, climbing up to the height of a unit, and bending. In some locations, must be available for weekend and after hour call-outs or be on call and able to respond to emergency situation 24 hour a day for approximately 12 to 15 days per month. Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and respirator as needed. No Beards. May be required to work in confined spaces. Ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is required.
