Where you will work

The Lewiston mill is the original Clearwater Paper manufacturing facility, producing paperboard product, and boasting over 700 talented employees. Approximately two hours away from Clearwater Paper's headquarters in Spokane, Washington, the Lewiston paper mill is a key component in Clearwater Paper's business strategy.

What you will do

This position is focused on management of the Quality Systems at the Idaho Pulp and Paper Mill, including specifications and test equipment, ensuring the highest possible product quality. This role reports to the Quality Department Manager. This position relies on analysis, experience, and judgment to plan and accomplish quality assurance goals for the site.

Paper Board Specifications & Standards



  • Administer the finished product specifications in PARCView and in department documentation
  • Manage the specification change process
  • Audit specifications for accuracy
  • Manage customer specifications by updating the finished product specifications
  • Implement updates/programming and train users on the finished product specifications in PARCView
  • Lead reviews of customer specifications with Production, Customer Service, Sales and Customer Solutions Group
  • Manage the Finished Products Visual Standards to ensure customer success
  • Manage and update the Test Equipment Manual
  • Maintain documentation related to product technical marketing claims and assist with customer inquiries for product regulatory and claim compliance


Quality Certifications



  • Administer internal audits and annual quality management review
  • Administer and audit the International Standards Organization (ISO) Quality System to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for ensuring ISO compliance and readiness of procedures, documents, and SharePoint files sitewide by collaborating with the training department, department trainers, and other site leaders
  • Conduct document audits
  • Administer and audit the FSSC 22000 Food Safety System to ensure compliance
  • Organize and lead GMP audits following FSSC 22000 standards
  • Assist with developing new certifications as required by customer needs
  • Administer compostable product compliance and reporting


Quality Measurement Systems



  • Responsible for site testing equipment, including material purchasing, training, calibrations, reference checks, and routine maintenance to ensure compliance
  • Assists in the development of Quality and Process Improvement budgets
  • Develops and administers testing equipment daily reference checks
  • Manages the annual calibrations and certification processes for test equipment for the site
  • Assist in the validation of Finished Product Work Instructions and standard operating procedures for the paper test lab and quality department processes
  • Develops knowledge base in TPM/lean concepts, with the learned ability to lead problem-solving activities to drive continuous improvement in areas of responsibility


Quality Reporting Systems



  • Provide regular performance reports to sites, management, and procurement
  • Administer and maintain all quality reporting systems in the Idaho production areas
  • Management of reporting systems, including daily and weekly quality reports and Typical Average Value Reports.


Customer / Production Support



  • Owns customer quality reports including quarterly box plots
  • Provide support for Customer Certificate of Analysis (COA)
  • Participate in weekly Quality Conference calls
  • Provide support/resources for process testing, sample collection during grade development efforts, and project work mill-wide.


Data Analysis



  • Use proven data collection and analysis techniques to correlate data, make recommendations for corrective and/or preventative action and plans, driving to resolution of issues
  • Work with teams to ensure that required documentation is complete and appropriate, ensuring that the proper testing plans have been completed


Data Analysis

Leadership



  • Participate in daily/weekly stand-up and other KPI-driven meetings
  • Participate in or leads Quality Assurance projects and problem-solving activities
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams in the development of documentation, investigations, and resolution of quality issues
  • Prepare and present findings to business partners in writing and orally to assist the business partners in determining the best corrective actions to be applied


What you will need



  • BS Degree in Engineering, Management Technology, Natural Science, or equivalent education, preferred
  • In lieu of education requirement, minimum 7 years of experience in similar role.
  • Minimum three 4 years of experience in a quality, technical, or similar role preferred
  • Lab experience, quality systems, and paper industry knowledge are strongly preferred.
  • General knowledge of Process Testing and Testing Equipment required
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint at an intermediate level
  • Demonstrated experience and skill with intermediate level of Statistical knowledge
  • Office and mill environment.
