Basic Function

HF Sinclair Midstream located in Artesia, NM is seeking a Pipeline Controller In Training. The basic function is to learn the skills necessary to monitor and control the flow of products through a pipeline system. They are responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of products from one location to another. While undergoing training, their primary role is to learn and familiarize themselves with the essential tasks and responsibilities involved in pipeline operations.

Job Duties

(functions considered essential as defined by ADA)



  • Works a 12-hour Dupont Schedule, which includes rotating shifts from nights to days, weekends, and holidays
  • Learns and understands the essentials of pipeline operations, including safety protocols, system controls, and emergency response procedures
  • Assists in monitoring pipeline operations through a computerized control system, identifying and addressing any abnormalities or deviations in the pipeline operations
  • Collaborates with experienced Pipeline Controllers and supervisors to gain knowledge and hands-on experience in pipeline operations
  • Assists in responding to alarms and emergency situations, following established protocols to mitigate risks and minimize downtime
  • Communicates effectively with field personnel, maintenance teams, and other stakeholders to coordinate activities and ensure smooth operations.
  • Documents and maintains accurate records of pipeline operations, including shift reports, maintenance logs, and incident reports
  • Stays updated with industry regulations, best practices, and emerging technologies in pipeline operations
  • Participates in training programs and workshops provided by the company to develop expertise in pipeline operations
  • Completes internet-based training as assigned by the training department
  • Completes a review board and training simulator for Operator Qualification



Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their manager, as determined from timeto time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

A minimum of five years of general work experience or may substitute experience for a two year technical degree (Associate's Degree in a technical field) is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Experience in the military, experience as a machine operator in manufacturing, pipeline controller, or field technician is preferred

Education Level

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in a technical field

Required Skills

Must complete all required certifications, tests, and training to know and become competent in the Company's tasks and duties of a qualified pipeline controller under direct supervision while completing classroom and CBT training and expectations within a six to eight month period. The ability to perform mathematical calculations at a basic level and computer skills, mechanically inclined; entry knowledge, understanding and ability to comply with all Federal, State, Local, and Company regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines. Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment and integrate new processes quickly and efficiently and follow instructions; self-motivated and ability to make quick decisions as needed. Ability to read and write and the ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication skills.

Work Conditions

Pipeline control room based. Must be available to work a flexible schedule (e.g., overtime, weekends, and holiday, rotating shifts).

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require sitting, talking, hearing, making visual inspections and making precise hand & finger movements. Job conditions may require standing, walking, reaching, grasping, and the ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, and valid State driver's license and proof of insurance required.
