Job Description As a Geotechnical Senior Staff Engineer with our Tennessee Transportation Team, you'll be asked to assist in providing engineering and consulting services for a wide variety of rural and urban transportation projects and clients across Tennessee. This may include but not be limited to roadways, airfields, and logistics hub pavements at a minimum. This will include performing and eventually leading geotechnical and transportation sector focused field investigations, engineering analysis and design, calculations, and recommendations, assisting in client development efforts, and preparing related reports for the services provided; tracking and evaluating project progress and budgets; researching and resolving design and construction issues and providing solutions; and applying sound engineering principles and communicating complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Required analyses will include:
Essential Roles and Responsibilities: * Work closely with Professional Engineer's to gain project management, engineering, and client development experience with intent to manage future projects and teams. * Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards on all projects across Tennessee or other Gulf Coast Division, participate in and eventually lead pre-task planning, and report any safety issues or concerns to management. * Maintain quality standards on all projects by supporting and subsequently leading development of the scope of work for routine transportation projects, working up to projects of increasing size and complexity. * Assist in the preparation of proposals, reports, and other project related deliverables for projects of varying complexity under the supervision of a Professional Engineer. * Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinate detailed phases of projects with varying size and complexity under the supervision of a Professional Engineer. From field investigations, to laboratory testing, to evaluation and analysis of data in engineering calculations. * Interact directly with client and project team with potential to supervise field team in developing scopes of service and maintaining effective communication on project progress for ongoing transportation projects. * Willingness to learn and grow in field with the potential for out of state travel, both short and long term, to gain useful knowledge and experience with other geologies and methods of construction. Openness to learn and grow will expand opportunities not just within state but also within Terracon's Transportation and Alternative Delivery groups nationwide. Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering required. Master's degree preferred. * 3 - 8 years' experience. Transportation experience with DOTs is preferred. * Relevant coursework in Geotechnical field including Foundations, Mechanics of Materials, and Laboratory test methods preferred. * Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) required. * Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in TN or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment preferred. * Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
