What to Expect

Tesla Manufacturing Engineers have the important roleof designing "The machine that builds the machine".We work with the cross-functional teams (Design, Quality, Production, Sustaining, and Supply Chain) throughout the entire lifecycle of a product (frominitialdesign through prototype development and into full production) to develop high quality and efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce Tesla'scutting-edgepower electronics.This role is located at Tesla's Gigafactory in Sparks, Nevada.


What You'll Do
  • Develop and procure manufacturing equipment and fixtures for early-stage prototype builds and full-scale production
  • Collaborate with equipment integrators and suppliers to design, manufacture, and install equipment for medium to high-volume production
  • Characterize, validate, and implement new equipment and fixtures on the production floor
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes, including detailed work instructions to train technicians and line operators
  • Plan production workstation layouts for optimal product flow, ergonomics, and efficiency
  • Conduct process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing, and capacity modeling/simulation to improve manufacturing performance
  • Provide DFM feedback to the design team to enhance manufacturability, process efficiency, and yield

What You'll Bring
  • 4+ years of experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
  • Experience using 2D cad tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD)and 3D design for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA)
  • Experience with conveyance, transducer-based fastening systems, robotic systems (Fanuc preferred)
  • Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
  • Experience providing Design for Manufacturability and Automation
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability
