Position Summary

The Manager of the Career Transition Program (the "Manager") has primary responsibility for overseeing the Career Transition Program. The Manager will execute all operational aspects of the Career Transition Incentive Plan ("CTIP") and the succession planning activities for the Program. Overall, the role will be focused on bringing clarity around succession plans for partners, clients and relationships and helping partners understand the early retirement option and transition into retirement. This role will have very high interaction and visibility with partners and leaders in the Firm.

As it relates to the CTIP, the Manager will be responsible for (1) identifying all partners that are eligible to elect the Career Transition Incentive Plan ("CTIP") on an annual basis; (2) leading all communications with CTIP partners throughout the year; (3) ensuring that age 61 meetings are held with all partners including collaborating with Executive Committee ("EC") members on scheduling of meetings; (4) attending all age 61 meetings and documenting the discussion; (5) drafting all Retirement Agreements for partners that elect CTIP and ensuring execution and proper filing of Retirement Agreements; (6) managing the activities related to support services for partners including coaching, financial planning and tax and accounting support; (7) understanding and explaining the transition into retirement to partners considering CTIP, including benefits implications; (8) maintaining the Career Transition Program Connect site; (9) liaising with Partner Resources team members for all partners that elect CTIP and retire; (10) maintaining the CTIP tracking of eligible partners, accepts and declines; (11) working with the Office of the General Counsel ("OGC") on the bi-annual justification memo for CTIP, including data analysis; (12) periodically reviewing CTIP for any changes that may be needed, and (13) keeping the Executive Committee ("EC") updated on all CTIP activities.

In addition, the Manager will oversee all succession planning activities that fall within the Career Transition Program. This will include (1) identifying all partners that will participate in the age 55 succession planning meetings on an annual basis; (2) reviewing and working with partners on their Practice Development Transition (PDT) plans and maintaining a repository of all PDTs; (3) liaising with Regional Section Heads ("RSHs") and other resources within the Firm on the PDT plans for partners; (4) leading all communications with partners having succession planning meetings throughout the year; (5) ensuring that age 55 meetings are held with all partners including collaborating with EC members on scheduling of meetings; and (6) attending all age 55 meetings, documenting the discussion.

Duties and Accountabilities


  • Cultivates and fosters strong relationships with leaders, partners, lawyers, and other functions to provide transition support and succession planning for Partners.
  • Drafts and supports the execution of all retirement agreements with partners. Relied on for accuracy and quality control of retirement agreements, including maintaining a repository all Retirement Agreements for CTIP partners.
  • Works closely with OGC to review CTIP on a bi-annual basis, including preparing and analyzing data.
  • Coordination with Partner Resources on the departure process and communications with departing partners that have elected CTIP.
  • Supports partners in evaluating retirement timing and understanding the financial implications and health and wellbeing benefits post-retirement.
  • Supports all inquiries from partners preparing for retirement, including coordination with other functions.
  • Responsible for the planning process in determining those partners eligible for CTIP and those that will have an age 55 succession planning meeting.
  • Streamlines administrative process across functions related to the Career Transition Program.
  • Works closely with the Global Director of Partner & Employee Benefits and the Benefits Department generally to support retiree benefit programs and policies and administration.
  • Responsible for responding to requests from financial planners/advisors for partner information related to financial planning activities.
  • Responsible for coordinating with the Partner Development team on retirement coaching for partners.
  • Collaborates with the tax team on tax and accounting support services related to preparing for retirement and accounting for CTIP payments.
  • Responsible for automating and streamlining key processes and implementing improvements for the Career Transition Program.
  • Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the Connect Career Transition Program Site to provide an enhanced portal for our partners.
  • Analyzes and produces reports for the Executive Committee and other Firm leaders as needed.

Qualifications


  • A minimum of 7 years working in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Leadership skills and prior management experience required
  • Has an excellent understanding of concepts relating to finance and human resource information systems, compensation and reports generation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Communicates with credibility and confidence and can effectively interact at all levels of the organization and explain complex matters in simple and understandable terms and is extremely responsive
  • Must have great attention to detail and possess strong organizational skills
  • Creative individual who can "think on their feet"
  • Questions the status quo and develops creative and efficient changes to current work-flow while constantly examining administrative effectiveness and seeking better procedures
  • Team player, contributing to the success of the global team with strong relationship building skills

  • Ability to maintain the strictest of confidences. Employee will be exposed to highly confidential information relating to the partners and must maintain absolute confidentiality and discretion
  • Ability to learn and understand the details and complications of partner benefits and pension plans, partner compensation, capital and taxes (including foreign taxes)
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willing to work during non-business hours including nights and weekends travel when needed
