Software Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

The Software Engineer is responsible for the design enhancement, integration, testing and life cycle support of present and future MSD software products. This position will design and create simple technical solutions to complex problems with proper abstractions and modularity for long term code lifespan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for assisting in designing, developing and testing software for use in external facing software products. Development may be client, web or server side, as needed.
• Work with team members to aid in designing appropriate UI, architectural, database and instrument controls for company's software products.
• Participate in modeling to include behaviors, code and database structure.
• Conduct unit testing, verification and debugging of systems and troubleshoot to determine any issues and communicate appropriate solutions.
• As required, present and participate in peer reviews of code and designs.
• As needed, help develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• A minimum of Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is required.
• A minimum one year of experience in a software engineering environment is desired.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• General knowledge of best practices related to the software development life cycle.
• Experience with one or more object oriented languages and relational databases. Java, SQL, JavaScript are desired.
• Knowledge of building tools/automated build systems and installation software is desired.
• Demonstrated logical problem solving abilities and able to decompose a complex process into simplified steps.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion, with the flexibility to change priorities if needed.
• Good oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work and learn independently, as an effective team member and with all levels of the company.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is typically performed in a traditional office environment or remotely as needed.

COMPENSATION SUMMARY

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $76,100 to $113,200. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
