The Innovation Lab Technician role provides multiple opportunities to develop your skill set while working with a fast-paced innovation team in charge of developing new products. This role requires hands-on work while keeping pace with the needs of the team. You will work with various individual contributors based on project needs and contribute by creating samples determined by experimental designs, data generation, equipment use and maintenance, and contributing insights on pilot processes. How you will impact Ingevity:
- You will be an integral member of a research team dedicated to developing new products in-house.
- Safely conduct experimental work and run pilot scale equipment that gathers critical information for understanding new materials and their properties.
- Develop and follow standard operating procedures.
- Display a high initiative for getting tests completed or setting up test equipment.
- Move innovation projects forward by juggling multiple tasks across different projects and project leads.
- Maintain records of test data in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and lab notebooks.
- Conduct routine equipment preventative maintenance and safety checks.
- Perform routine laboratory housekeeping activities (i.e., clean used glassware, tidy workspace).
- Conduct monthly standard laboratory inspections.
- Collaborate across technical functions with QA Analysts, Process Development team and Application team in completing tasks.
What you need to succeed:
- High standards for working safely, including proper storage, labeling, and use of chemicals, compliance with safe work practices and policies, and housekeeping.
- Desire to conduct hands-on work.
- Minimum of 3 years' hands-on experience and high school diploma or bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of hands-on experience.
- Experience with laboratory and small-scale pilot equipment is preferred, including maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Mechanically inclined disposition that could also provide support in customizing lab experiments and equipment.
- Ability to learn various material processing equipment while showing ownership of the process.
- Attention to detail, and high standards for data accuracy, organization, and reporting.
- Ability to organize tasks on multiple instruments and plan ahead for daily tasks.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, etc.)
- A team player with ability to work respectfully and effectively within a diverse team.
- Ability to understand ambiguity in projects while delivering results under time constraints.
- Strong work ethic, initiative, adaptability, and flexibility.
- Provide input on projects in group meetings based on conclusions drawn from empirical data
- Willingness to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally, based on project needs.
