Engineer Intern, Data

JOB SUMMARY:

Data is critical in the logistics industry, especially in a 3PL. Working with modern tools (Snowflake, AWS, MySQL), the Data Engineer Intern will use their technical skills to assist with the execution and delivery of business value via development, implementation, and delivery across Trinity's data portfolio.

Working in a Team, this role will leverage an Agile approach to execute development stories as we continually improve our technology offerings through flexible data ingestion pipelines, right-time data delivery, incorporation of structured and unstructured data sets for analysis, and the use of modern, resilient toolsets for data cleansing and preparation. The construction of code, determination of optimal implementation, use of targeted tools, and collaboration with both technology and business stakeholders are key day-to-day functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Coordinate and develop features and modules across multiple applications and subsystems, including collaboration in requirement definitions with end users, prototyping, design, coding, testing, and deployment.

2. Develop a strong understanding of how Trinity's data is generated and leveraged, is structured, and how users operate with the data.

3. Provide engineering and design support to our technical operations staff when they are building, deploying, configuring, and supporting systems for end users.

4. Coordinate with the engineering and operations teams to define plans for standardizing, scaling, and enhancing our systems and services to deploy and release new software.

5. Consistently live and model the organizations core values, leadership, and personal competencies.

6. Keeps the department leader informed of the status of all objectives within span of control, where there are problems or concerns as well as strategies and solutions being taken to resolve them.

7. Nurture, build, and maintain trusting, ethical, and influential relationships within the organization and with other team members.

8. Practice good planning and organization skills.

9. Actively participate and contribute at various corporate meetings.

10. Remain knowledgeable in the areas of market and industry trends relating to prevailing and emerging technologies.

11. Participates in special projects and handles all other assigned duties as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education: Working towards a BA/BS (4-year degree) in computer science, engineering, information technology, data science, or related field.

2. Experience: 0-1 years of experience in a professional team-based development organization.

3. Tools: Knowledge of Snowflake (RBAC, warehouse & query optimization, clustering, etc.), AWS data pipelines, data integration tools.

4. Database: Relational database experience with a clear understanding of data structures and SQL queries.

5. Skills: Proficient in SQL, experience with Python and Java.

6. Strong ability to define solutions, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

7. Organizational skills, with the ability to effectively manage and execute across multiple priorities at a time.

8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

9. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.

10. Participates in training, continuing education, or continuous improvement as approved by your manager.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This job operates in a physical office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands, arms and fingers to handle and lift objects up to 10 pounds. Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice.
