Reporting to the Senior Director Market Access Strategy, the Director of Market Access Strategy, Launch Excellence will play a critical role in ensuring the success of Market Access' (MA) ability to launch innovative pharmaceutical products consistently and effectively. This position will be responsible for creating framework to develop end to end strategic and tactical plans from launch to end of lifecycle across GSK's portfolio in order to ensure successful delivery of GSK's vision and mission. The director will be responsible for creating timelines for access strategy development and tactic planning (PIE deck, PVP, etc.), identifying key questions to be addressed during launch planning as well as life cycle planning (future competitors, landscape changes, LOE, etc.), and developing templates to communicate launch plans, access strategy, customer updates, KPIs, and more. Furthermore, the director will recommend resource allocation for assets in preparation for launch as well as determine how to utilize existing resources where appropriate. This role will work with cross-functional teams to develop this comprehensive market access strategy playbook, including pricing, reimbursement, and patient support program considerations to plan for the success of pipeline products, through launch, and life cycle management. This individual will be responsible for partnering across Market Access Strategy to ensure their timelines, playbook, questions, KPIs, templates are representative of team feedback and considerations across General Medicine, Specialty, Vaccines and Oncology. Lastly, it will be essential that this individual is innovative and develops Market Access launch excellence with the ability to adapt and evolve to remain best in class.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with peers and matrix partners in development of best in class and innovative capabilities to standardize launch excellence across Market Access, inclusive of unique therapeutic area considerations and incorporation of customer and brand perspectives
  • Understand what is needed to determine near/mid/long term access strategies, document these required initiatives, tactics, questions, flagging specific considerations across therapeutic areas, specifically noting unique consideration based on product characteristic that may determine: key customers, reimbursed under medical or pharmacy benefit, contracting considerations, etc.
  • Lead the development and pull through of Launch Excellence plan with a Market Access roadmap, strategy, and tactics that address customer objectives and drive favorable access
  • Develop Launch Excellence RACI across Market Access and timelines for launch activities
  • Partner cross-functionally with Brands, Market Access, VEO (Value, Economics, & Outcomes), account teams, etc. to develop launch excellence resources
  • Partner with Pipeline Market Access team to create a plan and timeline to ensure a smooth transition for products 18-24 mos. from launch to Market Access Strategy Optimization Leads
  • Facilitate approval of templates through the legal and compliance process
  • Establish metrics to track progress, identify areas of growth, and quantify impact as part of Launch Excellence
  • Own not only launch excellence plan development, but also alignment, and socialization and support MAS team in executing upon plan, templates, etc.
  • Deliver updates and insights to leadership
  • Understand needed components of access strategy to ensure key questions and proposed access KPIs at launch corporate key Market Access approach, such as patient services, trade and distribution
  • Incorporate how to plan for these critical access components including pricing/contracting, channel strategy, payer strategy, patient services, enterprise strategy, etc. .
  • Support timeline of the evolution of key access tactics, including PIE decks and payer value proposition across payer segments. Research optimal time to launch key tactics and build plan to ensure tactics timelines are optimized and standardized (I.e. all PIE decks created 12 mo. pre launch)
  • Monitor the external environment and ensure appropriate placeholders are included to understand impact to brand (short and long term impacts)
  • Partner with cross-functional Business Unit teams to understand key brand objectives and to ensure market access strategy is aligned to brand objections

Why You?

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years' experience of Pharmaceutical brand marketing experience OR a minimum of 3+ years of pharmaceutical market access marketing experience.
  • 2+ years' experience leading projects with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Travel Required: 10-20%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to lead teams working on multiple projects with a high degree of initiative including project planning and prioritization of competing demands
  • Demonstrated experience with recommending and negotiating complex decisions within a matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated experience hiring and managing third-party vendors.
  • Good understanding of best practices for development of customer facing Market Access resources.
  • Strong understanding of US market access business dynamics and customer business models (PBMs, Health Plans, Providers, Pharmacies, Hospitals, Clinics, ASOCs etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in project management.
  • Demonstrated experience in US healthcare strategic and analytic mindset/ market dynamics / payer landscape / account management.
  • Previous branded product launch experience.
  • Previous experience in the access and reimbursement of specialty or oncology products, including hub support, pharmacy benefit model, buy and bill model, specialty pharmacy, and working with account management, patient support / field reimbursement teams.
  • Experience managing tradeoffs between business initiatives within a finite budget and recommending courses of action to leadership.
