Role Description:

As a key leader, you will work with the Executive Director of Casualty Field Underwriting to shape the integration of Large Casualty and Excess Workers' Compensation into a unified underwriting team. You'll drive new business production, profitability, and market relationships, while refining account servicing and internal efficiencies. Success in this role includes maximizing renewal retention, enhancing underwriting capabilities, and mentoring underwriters to ensure long-term growth. Your Impact

As a key leader in our Large Casualty field underwriting team, you will:



  • Take formal responsibility for managing both new and renewal account underwriting opportunities.
  • Provide direct leadership and mentorship to assigned Regional Office Underwriters, guiding the team to success.
  • Collaborate closely with Excess WC resources and leadership, fostering a unified underwriting team that spans multiple lines of coverage.
  • Partner with Business Development, Credit Risk, Risk Control, VCE, and Claims teams to refine and enhance account servicing capabilities while optimizing internal efficiencies.
  • Play an active role in shaping corporate underwriting philosophies, business models, and field office structures.


What You'll Be Doing

Your leadership will be crucial in:



  • Driving underwriting profitability and premium growth through strategic oversight of field underwriting resources.
  • Strengthening the regional field office structure to create a collaborative, energized underwriting team.
  • Serving as the principal local underwriting resource for Large Casualty accounts, ensuring consistent underwriting strategies that align with corporate goals.
  • Enhancing Safety National's presence in the broker and risk management community, representing the company at key industry events.
  • Engaging with senior and executive leadership to drive underwriting strategy and ensure a competitive, profitable product portfolio.
  • Establishing best practices for Large Casualty underwriting, collaborating with Excess WC and other teams to maintain a consistent and disciplined approach.
  • Recruiting, training, and mentoring underwriters, helping them develop the technical and negotiation skills necessary to succeed.

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, risk management or similar is preferred


Required:

Qualifications:



  • 15 or more years of experience in the P&C industry
  • 5 or more years of experience specializing in Large Casualty underwriting
  • 2 years or management experience with proven effective mentoring and coaching abilities
  • Proven track record in delivering solutions, meeting timelines, establishing strong work ethic and developing strong business relationships both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a complex operating environment
  • Effective at driving change and influencing others and outcomes
  • Strong understanding and application of insurance financial concepts
  • Strong strategic thinking capability with demonstrated ability to anticipate future trends and strategic opportunities
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations
  • Creativity and willingness to help set new policies, systems and procedures for the continued evolution of field underwriting operations
  • Must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. without a requirement for work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future

In our vision to be First with Co-Workers, compensation is only one piece of the comprehensive total rewards package we offer. The target salary range for this position is $233,000 to $302,000. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
