About the McGrath Outpatient Pavilion: Located in Hillcrest, the McGrath Outpatient Pavilion is a state-of-the-art, 250,000-square-foot medical facility designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of our region. Spanning six floors, this advanced facility is home to key clinical programs and offers specialized diagnostic, treatment, and surgical services. With a strong emphasis on cancer care, we are committed to delivering world-class medical services in a patient-centered environment.

DESCRIPTION

The GI Endoscopy Technician I/II is responsible for setting up and assisting physicians and nurses with all GI procedures (including ERCP's and other advanced procedures). The GI Endoscopy Technician II performs at an advanced knowledge and skill level.

Duties include but are not limited to the following: procedure room set up, cleaning equipment and room; specimen collection and process; assisting during the pre and post procedure phases of care, patient transport, maintaining and operating equipment, performing high level disinfection, and assuring appropriate scope washing compliance; ordering supplies; restocking and maintaining inventory; assisting with billing functions and maintaining unit statistics; assisting with administrative and admission tasks and performing other duties as assigned. The GI Endoscopy Technician I/II is required to float between various locations and during regular working hours as well as on call hours.

Depending on experience and qualifications of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the GI Endoscopy Technician I or II level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • One (1) year as a GI Endoscopy Tech and/or Patient Care experience (GI Tech, LVN, CNA, Certified Medical Assistant, EMT, Dialysis Tech, Surgical Tech or other experience directly assisting physicians with procedures); OR a combination of education and experience.
  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within 6 months of hire date.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical EMR system.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse patient population and teams.

Additional qualifications below are required to be hired as a GI Tech II

  • Two (2+) or more years as a GI Endoscopy Tech.
  • Two (2+) or more years of advanced interventional GI procedures.
  • Complete and maintain current certification for GTS (GI Technical Specialist) or AGTS - (Advanced GI Technical Specialist) associate programs by SGNA.
  • Proven knowledge of various GI/special procedures, charge entry procedures, and medical terminology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two (2+) or more years of experience as a LVN, CNA, CMA (Certified Medical Assistant), EMT, Dialysis Tech or Surgical Tech certification.
  • Experience with high level disinfection of endoscopes highly preferred.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
  • Expected shift is Monday-Friday and on call 24/7 weeknights, weekends and holidays.
  • Position will be required to float to multiple UCSD locations such as, Hillcrest Medical Offices North GI Endoscopy, Thornton Special Procedures and East Campus GI Endoscopy.
  • Pay Scale for GI Tech I: $31.79 - $39.54 / Hour. GI Tech II: $35.96 - $44.68 / Hour
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $66,378 - $82,560 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.79 - $39.54

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
