Summary: Under the direction of ASTEMO AM Regional Management, this position exercises responsibility for execution of manufacturing sites operations strategies and objectives. This position provides technical expertise and engineering management required to support the design, development, implementation, and verification of new processes. In addition, this position will introduce new technology and continuous improvement to existing processes to meet site and regional business performance goals. This Position will serve as a corporate resource to all Engineering staff and Management teams from each Hitachi Astemo Americas, Inc ("USAM") site. The number of sites to support will be 12 within the USA, and 1 within Canada. In addition, support will be required periodically to support sites outside of the USA. These sites specifically are in Mexico (6) and Brazil (4). This position exercises independent judgment routinely and operates within established guidelines.

Essential Functions: Includes the following (other duties may be documented and assigned by Regional and Sub-Regional management). Work responsibilities will vary depending upon the requirements of each site. Primary duties will be to train, coach and implement Lean Manufacturing methods via Six Sigma (DAMIC) Process. The role will include developing and understanding and deployment of the Hitachi Operations Excellence Manufacturing Process. Additional work duties will include:

  • Manage all aspects of process improvement in support of Site Improvement Plans. These Site Improvement Plans will promote improved site business performance.
  • As Necessary, Manage all planning activities regarding new process design, investment planning, project schedules, plant layout, and process verification as required by each assigned project.
  • Manage Projects and assigned staff activity regarding new process introduction and Kaizen.
  • Promote periodic improvement planning and manage implementation for processes in assigned product area or specific process technology to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and cost.
  • Provide advanced technical support including PE staff support, training, troubleshooting and resolution of area specific technology, process, or equipment issues, as required to achieve Lean Manufacturing goals.
  • Effectively communicate with cross functional team, area management, related co-workers, contractors, vendors, and customers as required to ensure project schedule, budget, and planned results are achieved, with minimal impact to normal operations.
  • Specify, source, and procure necessary tooling, equipment, and resources required to complete assigned projects within established guidelines. Balance reporting staff assignments to meet all company objectives.
  • Promote technology transfer to Production technical staff and team members to support new process launches and process improvements, as required to meet company objectives.
  • Develop Corporate (IE) PE personnel, so as to spread and promote the use of Lean Six Sigma tolls among the corporate and other related operations staff members.
  • Support Corp PE (IE) Department Management in establishing department policy regarding future PE Department goals, objectives, and new business strategy and by aligning Production Engineering activities with the organizational goals and objectives.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to work with all levels of staff required. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information is required.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and following all regulations and requirements related to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Responsible for following all quality policy standards.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Possess ability to perform duties utilizing current company software applications. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills required. This position performs job duties in an ethical and professional manner.   • Experience and Proficient regarding

Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical field required.

Master's Degree Preferred

Experience: 10 years prior related experience preferred. Six Sigma Certification or equivalent Preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervisory responsibilities are positional, not direct reporting.

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Ability to work 40 - 60 hours per week, including weekends and holiday work.

Travel: Domestic travel required (average < 5 days per month) and international travel required (average < 2 weeks per year), to meet standard job requirements.

Work Environment: Balanced between office and manufacturing areas. Some remote work is acceptable.
