Qualifications
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree. (Education must be from an accredited institution.)
Substitution of experience for education: Experience in Human Resources can substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of four years.

Overview
Compensation Consultants are employed by the Department of Human Resources (DOHR) and are assigned a variety of professional duties carried out under the general supervision of the departmental leader.
Compensation Consultants partner with assigned agencies and upper management to address job classification and compensation needs including: evaluating and approving position action requests and employee salary adjustments, updating information in the HRIS system (Edison), determining class compensation, conducting job analysis, and participating in salary surveys.
This class differs from that of Senior Compensation Consultant in that an incumbent of the latter serves at the senior level and oversees compensation projects.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates and approves employee pay and salary recommendations, salary adjustments and other classification and compensation actions submitted by agency and DOHR business partners to ensure compliance with departmental, state and federal laws, rules, regulations, guidelines, processes and procedures. Assists agencies in position management.
- Researches information related to agency classification and compensation requests, as well as other projects to make informed recommendations leading to policy and procedure clarification and best practices.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports in electronic format and within the HRIS (Edison) system with recommendations for action.
- Analyzes data to determine appropriate pay structure, salary grade and FLSA status for new or revised job classifications.
- Conducts job analyses to identify tasks and competencies related to performance in various job classifications. Documents results of such analyses and uses those to accurately create/update classification specifications.
- Conducts and/or participates in routine and ad hoc compensation surveys to obtain and/or provide salary information which informs pay decisions. Prepares reports summarizing findings and making recommendations for future changes impacting pay.

TN Driver Standards
