Job Overview:

This position is responsible for the oversight of the hospital-wide Infection Prevention (IP) and Control programs. This responsibility includes risk assessment, surveillance, infection prevention and control strategies and includes consultation related to high level disinfection, environmental controls, occupational health, construction and emergency management. This position will partner with Human Resources regarding Employee Health initiatives.

General Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and monitors all hospital-wide infection prevention activities, to ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, licensing and other industry standards.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates IP plan and related policies as well as reporting required data to various regulatory agencies.
  • Utilizes principles of epidemiology and serves as a resource for federal, state and local requirements regarding infection prevention and occupational health.
  • Responsible for collection and analysis of infection data and evaluation of products and procedures. Develops and reviews infection risk assessment, prevention and control strategies.
  • Implements changes mandated by regulatory, accrediting, and licensing agencies and reports communicable diseases to health departments; participates in research projects and product evaluation and approval process related to Infection Prevention.
  • Provides education and consultation regarding Infection Prevention policies and emerging diseases.
  • Demonstrates practices that promote the Mission and Vision of UHS and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.
  • Demonstrates Service Excellence at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Nursing, Epidemiology or other relevant biomedical science. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years in clinical infection prevention role.

  • CIC (Certified Infection Control).
  • Basic computer skills; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook proficiency preferred; Cerner experience preferred; NHSN experience preferred.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, and customer service skills required. Knowledge of human resource management, program development, fiscal management skills, and familiarity with regulatory and accrediting agency standards preferred.
