The Assistant Controller will facilitate the handling of operations, logistics, and inventory control functions as they relate to their financial impact. Understand activity based costing and lean manufacturing concepts within an "average and actual" job cost system or other capital goods industry. Implementation and operation of a top tier ERP system (Great Plains) is highly preferred. The position will have significant influence over day to day cost management; must have a willingness and strong desire to take ownership of and to be accountable for the entire cost accounting function. This position requires an accounting or finance degree, advanced or expert knowledge of manufacturing, cost accounting, ERP systems and the MS Office productivity software. Position reports to the Controller. Duties require individual to be self-directed on projects, with minimal direction from supervisor.

Responsibilities :

Sales, Cost of Sales, and Margin Analysis

  • Develop and maintain a product line sales and gross margin tracking methodology to include actuals, plan, and monthly forecasts.
  • Support the development of the annual operating plan, monthly financial forecast, and strategic planning process; from sales and gross margin ultimately thru operational expense to EBITDA.
  • Track sales order backlog as it relates to the monthly forecast.
  • Track weekly shipments, locks (completions), and starts; providing input to the controller for timely customer invoicing.
  • Analyze cost of sales by individual job to ensure accuracy of materials and labor used.

Inventory and Capital

  • Perform all closing processes related to the ERP system as they relate to the cost accounting function.
  • Provide accurate inventory valuation
  • Raw material in an "average" costing system
  • Work in process and finished goods in both an "average" and "actual" cost system.
  • Take the lead in the annual physical inventory (Raw, WIP, and FG). Work with operations to develop a cycle count program with the goal of eliminating the annual raw material physical inventory.
  • Support accurate month-end close process with accounts reconciliations and J/E's
  • Perform Excess & Obsolete and Lower Cost or Market calculations quarterly.
  • Assist controller in forecasting inventory levels.

Manufacturing and Operational Costs

  • Perform direct, indirect, hourly, salary labor, and overhead expense analysis.
  • Monitor, track, and report on monthly warranty cost.
  • Provide reporting on capital investments.
  • Provide financial support on product platform teams and other financial analysis projects (EV, Make vs. Buy) as required.
  • Optimize Great Plains system as it relates to operational transactions

Metrics and Corporate Reporting

Experience with Headcount, Labor hours, Spare parts and equipment sales, Inventory levels, Borrowing base, Sales by state, etc.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is required. 5 years of work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. P.C. experience, especially with Excel, is required. Project management experience is preferred.

Preferred:

Advanced skills in Excel, SQL Server database data mining and reporting using Power Pivot, Crystal reports, MS Access, and MS Analysis & Reporting Server.
