Manufacturing Operations Intern

The Manufacturing Operations Intern will support production needs and project work. Duties include day-to-day problem solving, process improvement and development, and furthering our growing culture of continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work directly with employees across the organization chart, a continuous improvement mindset, a collaborative spirit, and a creative approach to problem solving.

Pay rate for this position is $22 -$25 an hour depending upon experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Create and update Value Stream Maps, Process Maps, and time studies
  • Investigate, experiment, and implement process improvements
  • Perform analysis of various data sets using statistical tools
  • Lead and support one or more Continuous Improvement projects
  • Lead or participate in Kaizen events, as required
  • Conduct 6S audits
  • Participate in the creation or modification of processes, layouts, and labor standards for manufacturing processes
  • Participate in the establishment of standard work processes and procedures
  • Perform other related duties as assigned



Education:



  • Enrolled in an accredited degree program pursuing AS, BS, or MS Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Accounting or other related major
  • In lieu of educational experience, demonstrated experience in a similar manufacturing environment


Experience:



  • No experience required, one year of professional experience a plus
  • Training or experience with continuous improvement methodologies like Lean and Six Sigma is a plus


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Strong computer and analytical skills
  • Assembly and/or manufacturing shop floor experience is a plus
  • Basic knowledge manufacturing principles and methods
  • Basic knowledge of inspection tools and methods
  • Ability to identify and solve problems with little direction or assistance
  • Must be able to work in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Must be comfortable interfacing with personnel at all levels



Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to enter data into a computer by use of a keyboard and mouse
  • Must be able to move around the plant as needed
  • This position is mainly sedentary and is therefore, required to sit
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk throughout the facility
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally will need to bend, stoop and squat



Work Environment:


  • The work environment conditions are typical of a manufacturing environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the basic functions. The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to moderate, however, hearing protection may be required if employee enters high noise areas as a part of their normal job duties.
