Essential Functions:

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.

• Takes inventory of the patients in the morgue and e-mails to appropriate personnel. Picks up deceased patients and delivers them to the morgue. Logs patients in and out in the morgue inventory book, noting patient's name, date, time in, time out and Funeral Home. Monitors Morgue temperature.

• Confirms required autopsy paperwork is completed at designated enterprise sites. Delivers virtopsy patients to X-Ray, CT, MRI, and Ultrasound, as needed. Performs autopsy evisceration. Prepares patients for release to funeral homes. Cleans and disinfects the morgue. Discards autopsy tissue and morgue waste, which requires prepping separate biohazard boxes, filling with waste properly sealing and arranging for pick-up for off-site disposal.

• Delivers and set-up patients in viewing room for family viewing. Acts as point of contact for funeral homes, family members of the deceased, Social Work and Medical Records personnel. Sharpens surgical instruments including scissors and knives.

• Empties surgical specimen shelves and discards tissues. Cleans frozen section stain set-up. Changes reagents in the processor (s). Refills gross benches with formalin and empties/neutralizes waste formalin as needed. Recycles alcohol. Refills and troubleshoots cassette printer as needed. Maintains inventory of gross room and morgue supplies. Maintains temperature chart/graph for Morgue(s).

• Performs other related duties deemed necessary by supervisory personnel.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma Required or equivalent AND Experience: On the job training and knowledge of medical terminology
