About the Unit: The Pharmacy Department provides pharmacy services for Inpatients, ED, Surgery, and the Infusion Center at Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital. Scope of Work: The Pharmacy Intern, under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, processes, prepares, and delivers medications and supplies, working with multiple medication automation systems. The Pharmacy Technician works in complex pharmacy areas, including Sterile Product Compounding, Controlled Substance Handling, and Inventory Management. Link to Zeeland Hospital: https://www.spectrumhealth.org/locations/zeeland-community-hospital Job Summary Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, formulates, prepares, and delivers medications and pharmaceutical supplies. Exercises professional judgment in the interpretation of orders. Trained in medication reconciliation duties and pharmacy technician skills. Works with multiple medication automation systems. Internship frequency: Year-round staffing: Two 8-hour shifts every other weekend Approximately 3 holidays per year for duration of internship Summer staffing: up to full time work completing technical or clinical activities depending upon departmental needs Essential Functions Interprets physician's orders checking for correct dose, drug, route, rate and frequency of administration. Reviews patient profile for allergies, duplication of drugs and drug interactions and accurately enters orders into computer under the supervision of a pharmacist. Aseptically reconstitutes, filters, prepares and labels parenteral, sterile products, and chemotherapy, and dispenses other medications under the supervision of a pharmacist. Maintains documentation and record keeping. Participates in patient care activities such as drug use monitoring, pharmacokinetics dosing service and nutritional support services. Provides drug information to physicians, nurses, and other members of the team in collaboration with a pharmacist. Participates in special projects, such as data entry or research. Completes all Spectrum Health assigned competencies by assigned due dates.
