LOCKSMITH - Fort Stewart - Hinesville, GA SUMMARY This position is responsible for installing, repairing, modifying, and opening a variety of locking mechanisms ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Establishes keying system for buildings. Examines locking mechanism and installs new unit or disassembles unit and replaces work tumblers, springs and other parts or repairs them by filing, drilling, chiseling and grinding. Opens door locks by moving lock pick in cylinder or opens safe locks by listening to lock sounds or by drilling. Makes new or duplicate keys, using key cutting machine. Changes combinations by inserting new or repaired tumblers into lock. Opens safe locks by drilling. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum requirements for this position include a High School Diploma or equivalent GED plus a minimum of three (3) years mechanical and/or carpentry experience with a minimum of one year as a locksmith apprentice. A valid Georgia Driver's License, ability to maintain military gate pass access and ability to obtain *Secret Clearance* are required. Experience responding to and completing repairs on Demand Maintenance Orders (DMOs). CRITICAL FACTORS FOR SUCCESS Knowledge of mechanical locking mechanisms. Knowledge of building construction. Knowledge of wood framing, concrete and other building materials. Knowledge of safety procedures. Skill in operation of hand and power tools. Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work. Skill in public and interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communications. COMMUNICATION SKILLS Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers and staff members. Ability to write reports. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, fellow employees and customers. REASONING ABILITY Must be able to read and interpret various information to ensure procedures are followed. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally be required to lift more than 50 pounds. The employee must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work environment will require on-call rotation. The employee may be exposed to noise, dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold, heat, and inclement weather. The work may require the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles, and/or gloves. A background check and drug screen will be conducted for this position.
