Job Description |
The Director of Advising Career and Transfer Services reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Student Development and is responsible for providing vision and leadership for the design, delivery, and evaluation of comprehensive services offered by the department. The Director provides leadership for proactive and integrative initiatives to promote enrollment, and to promote access, retention, and completion as well as transfer and career readiness. Responsibilities include leading effective and efficient day-to-day center operations, developing career, transfer, and advising curricula; hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating employees; setting goals and overseeing activities to ensure their actualization; planning and facilitating training and professional development activities; collaborating and communicating with campus partners to align advising efforts; overseeing departmental events; leveraging individual, group, and technological strategies to best meet students' needs; troubleshooting advising issues; developing and managing the department's budget; analyzing and evaluating students and departmental data; communicating and maintaining compliance with academic policies and regulations; overseeing cooperative education, internships and field placement activities; and collaborating with employers and community members to assist students by creating job opportunities. Other duties include serving on various committees and boards; participating with local community groups and agencies; and staying abreast of research and effective academic, career, and transfer strategies in the community college sector. |

Required Experience |
Minimum of 5 years of experience in advising, career, and transfer curriculum development and assessment in a college setting. Plus 1 year of supervisory experience. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities |
- Proven ability to hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff effectively.
- In-depth knowledge of academic advising, career counseling, and transfer processes in a community college setting.
- Experience developing and assessing advising, career, and transfer curricula and student learning outcomes.
- Understanding of articulation agreements and transfer pathways with universities.
- Ability to oversee and coordinate large-scale events such as advising sessions, transfer fairs, and career workshops.
- Strong budgeting skills, including the ability to develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets and expenditures.
- Comprehensive understanding of academic policies and regulations, ensuring compliance across all departmental functions.
- Proficient in leveraging technology for academic advising, career services, and student development, including data management and outcome tracking.
- Experience overseeing Human Development (HD) courses, including curriculum development, scheduling, and adjunct faculty management.
