Job Summary
The Director of Specialized Tools & Equipment is responsible for overseeing the procurement, maintenance, and management of all specialized tools and equipment used within the utility industry. This role involves strategic planning, coordination, and execution of equipment-related activities to ensure operational efficiency and safety. The Director will lead a team of professionals, develop and implement equipment management protocols, and collaborate with various stakeholders to optimize the use of specialized tools and equipment. Specialized tools and equipment include the temporary emergency energy facilities, drones, infrared, other aerial assets, and new technologies to assist in response to distribution and transmission needs.
Essential Functions
* Lead and manage the tools and equipment team, providing direction, support, and mentorship.
* Determine the type, quantity, and placement of specialized tools for the distribution and transmission systems.
* Develop and implement strategic plans for equipment procurement, maintenance, and management.
* Develop metrics and track status to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
* Oversee the procurement, maintenance, and repair of specialized tools and equipment.
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of equipment management processes and implement improvements as needed.
* Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment-related activities.
* Preform after action reviews after each use and report on success/opportunity. Provide recommendations for system improvements.
* Collaborate with regulatory agencies, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure the availability and reliability of specialized tools and equipment.
* Communicate with internal departments to provide updates and information on equipment status and needs.
* Represent the company and participate in industry forums, conferences, and working groups related to specialized equipment to remain current on technologies that could enhance restoration, routine system inspections, and strategic planning for system rehab.
* Develop and manage the budget for tools and equipment, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
* Maintain an accurate inventory of all tools and equipment.
* Ensure the availability and track readiness of tools and equipment for operational needs.
* Develop and implement training programs for equipment personnel to enhance their skills and knowledge.
* Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
* Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in equipment management.
Education Description
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or other related field from an accredited university is required.
* Professional certifications in project management or continuous improvement are preferred.
Experience
* Minimum of 10 years of experience in utility project management, continuous improvement, and data analysis, with at least 7 years in a leadership role.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Proven ability to manage budgets and contracts.
* Ability to think strategically and implement innovative solutions.
