The Database Administrator position is a member of the Database Services Team, which is a sub-group of the Virginia Community Colleges System's (
VCCS) Enterprise Operations Services (
EOS). The
EOS is the primary IT infrastructure provider for the
VCCS, consisting of the twenty-three colleges, System Office, and Shared Service Center. The Database Services Team maintains and supports database management system architecture and associated infrastructure used in
ITS-hosted services.
Primary job duties include:
- database monitoring, performance, tuning and application support
- database backup, refresh, restore and Disaster Recovery
- operational stabilization and operations effectiveness
- database installation, maintenance and upgrades

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. |
KSA's/Required Qualifications |
Comprehensive knowledge of:
- Oracle RDBMS 19c and above
- Database backup and recovery
- Oracle Enterprise Manager
- SnapManager for Oracle
- Rubrik
- Oracle Connection Manager
Considerable knowledge in:
- Change Management
- Incident Management
- Request Management
Working knowledge in:
- Writing SQL and PL/SQL
- Oracle Exadata DB
- Data Guard
- RMAN
Considerable skill in:
- Database Security
- Database Patching
SQL Performance Tuning- Database installations and upgrades
- Oral and written communication.
Working skill in:
- Unix shell scripting
- Asset and Configuration management
Ability to:
