Overview

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION:

MBP is seeking future design and construction industry leaders looking for growth opportunities and working on meaningful projects that support our community. For this position, we seek candidates with 5-10 years of experience in construction/project management to support MBP's growth and advancement in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Experience in supporting the successful completion of new and or/renovation projects in education (higher-ed and K-12), healthcare, laboratory, data center, and/or federal or local government projects desired. Evidence of progressive career development and demonstrated expertise in construction management, project management, engineering design, or related fields.



Responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES:

Duties include providing pre-construction and on-site owner representation for medium-to large construction projects, either as part of a team or working independently, depending on the size and complexity of the project. Responsibilities include managing cost, schedule, and/or quality on behalf of the client/owner. Typical duties include:

    Reviewing project schedules to verify they are complete, feasible, and reasonable. Specific scheduling experience is not required but desired.
  • Reviewing and tracking progress against the accepted schedule.
  • Participate and/or lead progress meetings. Prepare meeting minutes or review meeting minutes prepared by others to verify completeness and accuracy.
  • Monitor submittal workflow to verify timely submission, review, and approvals. Tracking and expediting the resolution of critical submittals.
  • Monitor Request for Information (RFI) workflow for timely responses. Assisting in resolving owner-related RFIs.
  • Performing site walks to observe and document construction progress
  • Provide quality management, including participation in preparatory/pre-installation meetings, and perform or oversee the performance of Quality Assurance (QA) inspections to verify that work is being performed in compliance with contract requirements.
  • Performing or overseeing the preparation of daily fields.
  • Document and track issues until resolution, including working collaboratively with the contractor, designer, and owner to resolve issues as they arise.
  • Review contractor monthly payment applications.
  • Review of change order proposals for entitlement and price, including preparing independent estimates as necessary and leading or assisting in negotiations.
  • Coordinate and oversee other third-party owner contractors.
  • Coordinate punchlist and acceptance with the designer and other project stakeholders.
  • Monitor and verify completion of closeout requirements, including owner training, operations and maintenance manuals, warranties, and stock materials.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Participation in company initiatives.
  • Participate in professional association meetings
  • Stay abreast of new trends and innovations.
  • Mentor and facilitate the imparting of technical knowledge to staff including the transfer of technical knowledge from the more senior personnel to those with less experience.
  • May assist in interviewing and recommendation of candidates to fill vacancies and build capabilities within the workforce
  • Provide subject matter technical engineering expertise and support and review technical work of others.
  • Monitor progress and quality of work produced by others assigned to him/her.
  • May engage in business development and/or participate in marketing activities.


Qualifications

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management.
  • PE and/or other specific certification such as CCM, PMP, and/or CQM, preferred.
  • Engineering principles, principles of construction management and project controls, with specialized knowledge in several areas including scheduling, cost estimating, documentation, contract administration, construction techniques.
  • Basic data processing principles as related to the solution of engineering problems.
  • Engineering mathematics and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Construction methods and practices.
  • State and federal regulations, construction codes, and safety practices pertaining to the work.
  • Basic project management and supervisory principles.
  • Must possess OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification or obtain within three months of hire.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to establish positive and productive working relationships with peer leaders, superiors, and subordinates.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Skilled at preparing clear, concise, and accurate reports and presentations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work and effectively act as a representative of the Owner/Client.
  • Capable of managing multiple assignments.
  • An understanding of technical jargon and the ability to translate photographic and written engineer centric language into a clear and concise brief report.
  • Crisis management/problem resolution.
  • Experience in the use of industry project management software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, SharePoint, etc. is preferred.
  • Proficiency with many software applications including Microsoft Office programs, CADD, BIM Platforms (such as Revit, Navisworks, and Autodesk 360), and graphics, .
  • Ability to analyze and optimize internal and external processes.
  • Apply engineering principles and techniques to the solution of engineering problems.
  • Ability to understand and interpret engineering construction plans, specifications, contract documents, complex technical and legal documents, maps, and technical drawings and plans.
  • Ability to lift/carry 50 pounds (occasionally) and 20 pounds (frequently).
  • Able to stand and sit as needed on project work sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely navigate construction work sites with uneven terrain.
