How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Senior Labor and Materials Estimator, you will be responsible for providing accurate and timely labor estimates for new field-erected towers and material estimates for both new and reconstruction projects. This role requires strong multitasking abilities and close collaboration with Sales, Sales Support, and Construction teams to ensure precise cost assessments that impact sales and project execution. With a keen attention to detail and a sense of urgency, the incumbent will maintain accurate project history records while leveraging business acumen and execution knowledge to drive effective estimating processes.

This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

1. Cost Estimation and Analysis

• Estimate labor and material costs for new tower and reconstruction projects across all SPX field-erected product lines.
• Develop and maintain computer programs for labor cost estimation and analyze historical project data for accuracy.
• Support subcontract estimate requests for labor-related tasks such as demolition, abatement, and concrete work.

1. Cross-functional Collaboration and Execution Strategy

• Work with internal teams to develop competitive execution strategies and verify productivity rates with the Construction group.
• Answer construction-related inquiries from internal and external stakeholders to ensure informed decision-making.
• Create man-loading and organizational charts for customer bids to support project planning.

1. Communication and Process Improvement

• Clearly communicate pricing assumptions to Sales for transparency in cost estimates.
• Continuously refine estimation processes by incorporating project insights and execution variables.

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

Required Experience & Skills

• 5-7 years of experience
• Construction and estimating experience required
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Ability to read engineering drawings
• Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills

Ideal Experience & Skills

• Cooling tower experience preferred
• SAP experience preferred
• Mechanical aptitude
• Negotiation skills

Education & Certifications

• Associate's degree in a related field required
• Bachelor's degree preferred

Travel & Working Environment

• Onsite office environment, Monday - Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period
• Keyboarding/typing
• Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
• Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy
• Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment
• The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours
• Occasional outside environment; exposure to excessive noise, heat, or bad weather
