Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Locksmith 1st Class to work in our Physical Security Systems department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our sitewide facilities with every other Friday off. You will perform professional installation, corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance on a variety of complex locking systems and equipment. You will report directly to the manager of the Physical Security Systems department. Responsibilities Include:
- Install and repair of all major lock types including cylindrical, mortise, panic exit devices, deadbolts, desk file cabinet and motor vehicle locks. Install and repair of standalone electronic and mechanical push button locks.
- Pin lock cores and make keys from code duplication and impression method.
- Review maintenance work orders to ensure correct parts are identified for equipment. Perform work as stated in the work packages and minor maintenance requests.
- Participate in pre-job walk-downs, pre-job briefings, and post-job reviews. Follow LWP-6200 Maintenance Integrated work control process, Physical Security systems work control, or relevant work document.
- Follow Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Job Performance Measures (JPM) requirements. Ensure work is performed in a safe and effect manner. Identify hazards or unsafe conditions not previous identified which may include exercising stop work authority.
- Respond to emergency work request as needed.
- Work with other locksmith and security systems maintenance technicians as required.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order. Ensure that only approved supplies, parts, and materials are used per the work package. Identify needed spare parts for SSM equipment.
- Verify that consumer grade items being used do not exhibit indications attributed to potential suspect/counterfeit items. Report and document any items that fail to meet required technical or quality requirements in accordance with company procedures.
- Track and send to Locksmith Service Center weekly activities, including labor hours and material used.
- Attend meetings and training sessions and complete required reading for job qualifications. Complete and maintain training, required reading and qualifications specified for assigned tasks.
- Maintain master key systems and keep records of lock cores up to date.
- Follow and be familiar with all DOE orders pertaining to locks keys and safes.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent and 9 years of relevant experience including using locksmith tools and equipment.
- Journeyman-level knowledge of locks and theory of locking devices is required.
- Must have basic knowledge of mechanical and electronic safe locks.
- Experience using the proper terminology of Total Position Progression and the Rotating Constant Method master keying.
- Experience with single-step and two-step progression master keying and developing a total progression split pin master key system using the proper key symbols.
- Experience working with electronics and electronic locking systems required to work with security doors, vault doors, and safes.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining positive and cooperative customer relations.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Job Information:
- The pay for this position is $41.74/hr. (Rate can vary based upon individual work location, clearances, and qualifications. Rates are accurate for current posting and subject to change These are bargaining unit positions.)
- TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
