Position 1 - Tuesday through Saturday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.

Position 2 - Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm

The assignment runs from May to August 2025.

Summary

This entry-level position involves the handling of biological specimens in preparation for laboratory analysis. This position is designed to introduce and expose the student pursuing a college degree in healthcare or natural science to the clinical and forensic commercial laboratory. This introduction and exposure will be accomplished by teaching the candidate to perform tasks in the pre-analytical departments of a laboratory that are integral to day-to-day operations.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Handle biological specimens.
  • Receive, unpack, and sort specimens sent to NMS, including maintaining & reconciling courier airbill reports.
  • Complete chain of custody documentation and complete other required documents
  • Responsible for specimen inventory management, including transporting, retrieving, storage, and disposition or return of specimens in associated software programs.
  • Sort and Scan client requisitions (On Base), store the paperwork and document discard date of storages.
  • Enter patient information into the NMS Laboratory Information Management system (LIMS)
  • Assign test codes and clarify requests as needed.
  • Process specimens for referral to another laboratory
  • Follow proper lab safety practices.
  • Performs general department housekeeping.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and projects.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to manipulate computer keyboard, objects, or controls.
  • Requires walking from one work location to another throughout the shift.
  • Sitting and standing for up to extended periods of time.
  • Lifting and carrying objects up to 20 pounds

Specific vision abilities (with correction) include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
