About the Position

The Engineering Division Manager collaborates with Directors and other Division Managers in the Flood Control District with minimal oversight. The Engineering Division Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the administrative, technical, and professional staff, as well as overseeing the division's activities. Additionally, this position is tasked with achieving the division's tactical and strategic goals.

We Require

  • Seven years of work experience in engineering, hydrology, or project management, including two years of supervisory experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resource Management, Planning, Physical Science, or a related field

  • Master's degree or higher in a related field may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration or by the technical board of another state with the ability to obtain Arizona Registration within six months of employment

  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification

  • Experience in a public or non-profit setting

Job Contributions

  • Determine objectives and set project priorities and completion timelines; assure the efficient operations and sound fiscal practices required to meet division objectives through effective planning, staff management, and resource allocation

  • Review and evaluate operations, activities, technical designs, and standards and recommend improvements and modifications; evaluate plans and designs; and prioritize projects to ensure accomplishment of goals and objectives

  • Review and approve project status reports prepared by Branch Managers; coordinate project schedule and plan modifications; advise subordinates on project management issues; and direct programs and projects to coordinate their resolution

  • Provide leadership, direction, and guidance in technical strategies and project management procedures; evaluate and analyze issues; and recommend and implement solutions

  • Represent the Flood Control District position and policies to various regional organizations and state and Federal agencies; advise, coordinate, and serve on planning committees

Working Conditions

  • This position will have a telework option after a training period

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly or requires walking or standing to a significant degree

  • The position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
