JOB SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for developing and monitoring the mechanical engineering design best practices employed in our new product development. This position will assist with mechanical engineering support for Production, Service, Sales, Regulatory, and Supply Chain Management. This role also requires development of new technology, feasibility studies, and other tasks as assigned by the Mechanical Engineering Manager. The Mechanical Engineer will serve as a Key Technical Contributor to new product design and legacy product support. You will apply your design and analysis experience in injection-molded component design, steel component design, weldments, extrusions, fasteners, metal fabrication, castings, vendor management, regulatory testing support, and verification and validation activities. You will also provide documentation to create soft and hard tooling for prototypes and production, respectively.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Design cost-optimized plastic and metal components and mechanical systems
  • Specify cost-optimized mechanical components for prototypes and production units
  • Perform design functions including equipment selection, system sizing, load calculations, product specifications and design layouts for mechanical systems
  • Write and review mechanical engineering documentation and work instructions
  • Interact with internal electrical, software and system integration teams on product feasibility
  • Develop technical solutions to achieve marketing/sales requirements to FDA standards
  • Work with the Ziehm Germany R&D team on new developments component standardization
  • Liaise with Operations on new product transfer
  • Manage vendors, procure quotes, and manage prototype schedules and deadlines
  • Participate in the conceptual design effort on large and significant projects


Basic Qualifications:
Education:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.


Experience


  • 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Mechanical system design experience including plastic injection, casting, sheet-metal, weldments, molding techniques, and other mechanical device manufacturing methods
  • Experienced in design for high and low volume assembly/manufacturing
  • Knowledge of finite element analysis & other CAE methods
  • Experience in verifying products meet regulatory/safety standards, using outside test agencies).


Competencies:


  • Solid works experience / familiarization with Surface Modeling preferred
  • Ability to operate power tools to create and modify components for prototype builds
  • Ability to manage vendors, prototype firms, and full production
  • Must observe and follow all safety standards
  • Must follow all SOP's and Work Instructions per policy
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • This position requires positive interaction with people of all levels of employment and/or authority both internally and externally. The employee must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
