Role Description

The Performance Engineering team at Form is responsible for testing, operating, maintaining, and reporting on the performance of Form's three full-scale system prototypes - We are looking for an experienced performance engineer to dive into the rich data streams from Form battery systems operating at pilot and utility-scale power plants, to derive and report against key performance metrics, and to leverage data for technical support teams. In this role, you will craft clear takeaways from messy data and use your innate curiosity to dig deep into data and the system it is generated from to solve problems. You will write your own version-controlled analysis scripts, visualize trends and behaviors, and present results to cross-functional teams. Your efforts will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency and success of our system deployments.

What you'll do:
  • Process, analyze, and interpret battery, system, and plant data through Form's cloud storage system using custom Python scripts.

  • Define KPIs and document calculation procedures, including data collection, data cleaning, analysis method, analysis automation, and visualization.

  • Create automated data processing scripts to extract and track relevant KPIs across deployed projects.

  • Run gap analysis between in-field, in-lab, and modeled battery performance and contribute to gap root cause hypothesis and required testing for conclusions.

  • Support the development and validation of models that predict the performance of our battery systems in various operating conditions

  • Collaborate with software and firmware engineers to inform data collection and data storage solutions for our battery deployments at multi-hundred MW scale projects.

  • Use field data to identify and predict problems, and to inform root cause analyses in collaboration with O&M and Project Engineering teams.

  • Collaborate with user interface design and technical support engineers to define tailored performance views for internal use via our Network Operating Center and separately for external reporting to our customers.

What you'll bring:
  • 5+ years experience with signal processing, data analysis, and/or performance engineering; experience in solar or battery system performance analysis is a plus

  • Bachelor's degree or greater in engineering or mathematics

  • Demonstrated experience developing robust and documented analysis procedures, cross-functional collaboration to define KPIs.

  • Experience with version control, data management, analysis, modeling, and visualization software such as git, SQL, Python.

  • Strong technical communication skills, both written and verbal
