Overview

The Aviation CAD Technician is responsible for creating CAD layouts and drawings for projects associated with civil airport infrastructure. This includes utilizing basic design and engineering principles to develop project designs from concept phase through the end of construction and project closeout. A CAD technician works with a design team to collaboratively develop complex project designs. This requires strong communication and time management skills as well as a complete knowledge of the design software AutoCAD and Civil 3D.



Responsibilities

    Requires a strong knowledge of Autodesk software, basic civil design skills, and the ability to work within a dynamic project team, training for airport specific design will be provided by Woolpert
  • Prepare dimensional drawings, installation drawings, 3D models, and quantity takeoffs with a strong understanding of both Woolpert and client standards using AutoCAD and Civil 3D tools
  • Review survey data and work with survey analysts and field staff to develop 3D Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and existing conditions mapping
  • Work with essential AutoCAD and Civil 3D functions including sheet set manager, tool palettes, annotations, tables, and scales
  • Develop dynamic design models including points, alignments, profiles, cross sections, feature lines, corridors, surfaces, and pipe networks
  • Develop and analyze vehicle movement paths in support of design development
  • Perform quality control checks on construction plan sets, exhibits, and other project documents
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends in design software and support staff to utilize the most leading-edge industry technologies
  • Coordinate and communicate with other members of the design team, other market disciplines, and subconsultants


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of airfield design experience
  • Ability to work proficiently with AutoCAD and Civil 3D (Civil Engineering design and documentation software) is required
  • Ability to communicate thoughts and concepts with team members
  • Strong knowledge with CAD set up using surveyor data
  • Possess knowledge of coordinate systems, cartographic layout and design techniques
  • Basic understanding of Civil engineering and design practices
  • Ability to prepare various support graphics for reports and meetings
  • Computer skills: AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD Map, and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with AutoCAD Map is preferred
