Job Description

Because of increasing demand for mechanical and energy engineering expertise, we are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Elmhurst, IL or Peoria, IL office. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical guidance and training/mentoring for our design resources in all areas of work we do associated with Mechanical engineering. Assist the Project/Client Managers by providing them technical guidance to help meet the client's desires and budget. Work with a team of engineers on a variety of private, public, and federal projects. In addition to working with Mechanical engineers, this individual will team with electrical, plumbing/fire protection, civil, structural, and other disciplines to provide full-range services to our local, regional and national clients. In short, provide technical guidance associated with Mechanical requirements to accomplish our commitments. Reports to the Mechanical Discipline Manager.

Dewberry has a large team of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural (MEPS) engineers focused on design services for nationwide clients in specialized facility types and specialized design services. Our experience includes high performance buildings, net zero energy design, renewable energy technologies, microgrid and energy storage system design, energy and climate resilience, and services related to decarbonization/electrification of the built environment. Our MEPS group contains subject matter experts in leadership roles in international professional organizations such as ASHRAE. Our repeat clients include universities, and state, local, and federal government agencies, and large global industrial manufacturers, among others. Responsibilities

The Senior Mechanical Engineer would be expected to provide the following to others on the design team to effectively and successfully complete projects.

    Technical guidance and quality oversight, including code review, of all project work involving Mechanical engineering.
  • Technical training and development of staff.
  • Assist in establishing and improving standards, practices, guidelines, and specifications for mechanical discipline area.
  • Engineer of Record
  • Provide "on-the-spot" advice and decisions - technical and cost estimates.
  • Coordination with all the disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
  • Technical interface with code officials and contractors.


Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Accomplished professional engineer (PE). Existing licensure in IL is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience
  • Experience should include technical oversight of multiple projects with proven success providing technical oversight on projects that meet contract specifications and technical standards to the client on time and within budget.
  • Self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Well organized, takes good notes.

The projected range for this position is $136,000-$175,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
