Are you ready fora new beginning?

We need your talent, knowledge and dedication to better our world with biology.

Our purpose points the way

In Novonesis, we know that solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity's biggest challenges. Since we began more than a century ago, this has been our guide. It's how we've gotten so far. And it's how we'll impact the future. Now, more than ever, the world needs change. And with biosolutions, the possibilities for transformation are endless.

We're here to better our world with biology.

Join us as our new Associate Scientist or Scientist!

In this role you'll make an impact by:

  • Applying an understanding of microbial physiology to unlock the potential of a diverse collection of microorganisms, including bacteria, yeast and fungi.

  • Demonstrating and optimizing microbial strain performance using benchtop fermentation equipment.

  • Collecting and analyzing fermentation data streams, to develop deeper insights that can be used in strain engineering and fermentation optimization.

  • Producing fermentation samples required to support work in bioprocess analytics, product recovery and product testing

  • Connecting with co-located R&D teams and global colleagues in fermentation scale-up and piloting.

  • Working in teams to unlock applications and biological insights you'd neverachieve on your own.

Minimum Job requirements:

  • Master's or PhD degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biochemical Engineering or a related technical field. Relevant work experience will be considered in place of educational requirements.

  • Hands on experience working with fermentation systems (any scale) and related equipment

  • Solid conceptual and practical knowledge of fermentation process monitoring/control, strain screening and process development

  • Demonstrated competence in cultivating a variety of different microbes, spanning prokaryotes and eukaryotes

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Experience with computational tools such as JMP or Python

  • A strong desire to work as a member of an empowered cross-disciplinary, problem-solving R&D team

  • A mindset that embraces challenging science, recognizes change as opportunity and finds satisfaction in team success

  • This job requires some weekend and evening work, due to the nature of microbial fermentations

  • The physical work may include lifting, moving and handling materials and equipment (including bending and rotating movements)

Prior experience with one or more of the following is especially beneficial in this position:

  • +3 years related industrial fermentation experience

  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis and data visualization; working knowledge of laboratory information management systems (LIMS), electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN), coding and databases is an asset

  • Mentoring and coaching junior team members

  • Operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of bench scale fermentation systems and support equipment

  • Demonstrated experience with optimizing cultivation conditions, media formulation, feed-back and feed-forward process control

  • Proven track record of using design of experiments to drive scientific understanding or process change towards defined goals

  • Basic understanding of scale up and downstream recovery practices

  • Strong organizational skills, including an ability to contribute to multiple projects in parallel and navigating changing priorities

Application deadline: March 18, 2025

Expected Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000
