Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Mechanical Engineer I to support the design, build and test hardware for our next generation of iron-air batteries. As part of our Advanced Product Development team, you will have a hands-on role in conducting verification testing of system-level designs. You will also have the opportunity to design parts for volume manufacturing. Your work will rely on a broad range of engineering disciplines, including heat transfer, fluid dynamics and mechanics. You will integrate tightly with a team of experienced engineers to write and execute verification test plans and iterate on designs with data-driven analysis. You'll be a part of a large cross-functional team bringing Energy Storage Systems from concept to release to mass manufacturing. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver our sustainable multi-day energy storage solution to the grid!

What you'll do:
  • Lead hands-on prototyping and verification testing of subsystem designs

  • Drive instrumentation, data collection and data analysis for system-level validation builds

  • Own design of components and small assemblies for volume manufacturing

  • Run and analyze trials to inform specs and future design direction

  • Execute ambitious product development processes on tight timelines

What you'll bring:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 1+ years experience in mechanical design, or Master's with research or professional engineering experience.

  • Experienced using CAD (SolidWorks preferred) to design parts and assemblies.

  • Exposure to writing, executing and analyzing test plans to make data-driven decisions.

  • Experience with prototyping techniques and working in a machine shop environment.

  • Strong heat transfer, fluid dynamics and mechanics fundamentals.
