Job Summary and Responsibilities

Summary:

A project manager in the telecommunications industryrequires a blend of technical knowledge, strong project management skills, effective communication, and the ability to navigate complex challenges in a fast-paced industry. The Project Manager - Wireless is responsible for project planning & coordination, risk management, budget management, and overall performance of the project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Project Planning and Coordination:

  • Define project scope, goals, and deliverables.
  • Develop project plans and schedules.
  • Allocate resources and monitor progress.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Implement risk management plans to minimize project disruptions.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Liaise with stakeholders to understand requirements and expectations.
  • Provide regular updates on project status and milestones.

Budget Management:

  • Estimate project costs and prepare budgets.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure projects stay within budget.

Quality Assurance:

  • Establish quality standards and ensure adherence.
  • Conduct quality reviews and implement improvements as necessary.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and motivate project teams.
  • Delegate tasks and monitor team performance.

Change Management:

  • Manage changes to project scope, schedule, and costs.
  • Assess impacts and adjust plans accordingly.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain project documentation.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and presentations.

Skills:

Technical Knowledge:

  • Understanding of telecommunications networks, technologies, and protocols.
  • Familiarity with telecom equipment, software, and systems.

Project Management Tools:

  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Jira, Asana).
  • Experience with Gantt charts, Kanban boards, and other planning tools.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Problem-Solving Ability:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to quickly identify issues and implement solutions.

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams.
  • Conflict resolution and decision-making skills.

Organizational Skills:

  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Time management and prioritization skills.

Adaptability and Resilience:

  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing environments.
  • Resilience in handling setbacks and challenges.

Regulatory Knowledge:

  • Awareness of regulatory requirements in the telecom industry.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and/or QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred. Common majors include:
  • Telecommunications Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Information Technology
  • Business Administration with a focus on Project Management
  1. Master's Degree (Optional):
  • Master's degree in project management, Telecommunications Management, or a related field.

Preferred Certifications:

  1. Project Management Professional (PMP)
  1. Agile and Scrum Certifications:
  • Certifications such as Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) are valuable, especially in industries that emphasize agile methodologies.
  1. Telecom-Specific Certifications:
  • Certified Telecommunications Project Management (CTPM)
  • Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)

Skills and Experience:

  1. 1-3 years of Project Management experience is strongly preferred:
  • Prior experience in project management is crucial, preferably in a related field such as telecommunications, IT, or engineering.
  1. Technical Knowledge:
  • Deep understanding of telecommunications technologies, networks, and systems is essential to effectively manage projects in this industry.
  1. Communication Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary for interacting with stakeholders, team members, and clients.
  1. Leadership and Team Management:
  • Experience in leading teams and managing cross-functional projects, including the ability to motivate and coordinate diverse teams.

  1. Budgeting and Resource Management:
  • Experience in budget management, resource allocation, and cost control within project constraints.
  1. Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge:
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements and industry standards relevant to telecommunications projects.

Additional skills:

  • Industry Experience: Previous experience in the telecommunications industry, either in technical roles or project management, is highly beneficial.
  • Soft Skills: Effective project managers also possess soft skills such as adaptability, resilience, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Networking and Professional Development: Engaging in industry networking, staying updated on industry trends, and continuing professional development through workshops and conferences.
