Job Description:

  • Department is seeking a Community Engagement Specialist (CES). The CES is responsible for facilitating community-based initiatives, overseeing grant-funded programs, and supporting public health efforts within the department. This role involves managing budgets, tracking data, and coordinating with community member and partners to enhance access to health resources.


Role & Responsibilities:

  • CHW & Language Access Hub: Facilitate meetings, gather feedback, and coordinate efforts within the Community Health Worker (CHW) & Language Access Hub.
  • Interpreter/Translator Oversight: Oversee the work of interpreters/translators to ensure quality service and effective communication.
  • Substance Use, Recovery, and Maternal Child Health Support: Provide support for initiatives related to substance use, recovery, and maternal-child health programming.
  • Community Feedback: Collect and analyze community feedback to assess programming needs and suggest improvements based on this feedback.
  • Grant Funding Support: Ensure grant funding supports the outlined initiatives, especially in response to community feedback and improvement efforts.
  • Related Data Needs: Track and manage data needs associated with community health initiatives, including regular updates and reporting.
  • Community Events: Distribute resources and health-related information during community events, ensuring outreach efforts are effective.
  • Community Meetings/Coalitions: Attend and contribute to community meetings and coalitions that align with the ARPA TCO grant objectives.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma.
  • Reliable transportation-there is frequent travel within the district.
  • Knowledge of the local health district and resources available.
  • Ability to explain health information to the public in a clear, concise, and accessible manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate positively to staff members and the public.
  • Ability to analyze, report, and apply data to ongoing initiatives.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the ability to learn other software as needed.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or above in a health-related field.
  • Resides in Central VA Health District.
  • Experience performing community outreach and collaborating with community-based organizations.
