Job Summary

SMSI is hiring Construction Manager to work onsite in Los Alamos, NM. The Construction Manager is responsible for the organization of operations in the areas of Construction Engineering, Controls and Contracts Administration, and ensures that they are properly staffed. This position is 100% onsite, working 4 10 hour days per week. The candidate must have experience working in DOE, nuclear facilities.

Required Skills:




  • Experience working construction in DOE, nuclear facility is required.


  • Technical design interpretation, communication, and the ability to read/interpret and

    apply procedural oversight to construction processes including: Civil, Electrical and Mechanical are the key skills required for this position.


  • Ability to plan and develop projects or phases of project.


  • Experience planning and developing projects or phases of projects concerned with unique problems.


  • Planning, developing, coordinating and assisting in the management of projects.


  • Experience developing plans and conducting research on complex problems.


  • Experience planning, administering and recommending policies to senior management.

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of construction engineering and management principles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting field verifications of construction work to oversee, facilitate, and enforce compliance with drawings, specifications, national codes and standards.
  • Demonstrated expertise in collaborative problem solving to resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field as the liaison between design engineers and the constructor.
  • Proven ability to suggest, develop, and implement process improvements.
  • Ensures the proper coordination of the various groups within the Construction project.
  • Provides timely group support services to assist the various construction projects.
  • Ensures consistent application of construction engineering standards and practices between jobs.
  • Advanced design and/or construction experience in nuclear, accelerator, laboratory, or industrial facility operations.
  • Expert knowledge of construction work planning and control methods; facility maintenance and installation techniques and construction principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices.
  • The candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain active Q clearance.



Desired Skills:



  • Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular construction discipline.
  • Knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering.
  • Candidates who hold an active Q clearance or held one within the last 2 years are preferred but not required.



Education Requirements:



  • An educational degree is not required for this position.
  • Bachelor's with 10 or more years of experience, or Masters with 8 or more years of experience, or 14 years of experience without a degree.
