POSITION REPORTS TO: Director of Equity and Inclusion

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Stipend-Based Compensation

JOB STATUS: Full-time, Summer Session A (6 hours per day, approximately 2.5 weeks from May 27 through June 11, 2025)

COMPENSATION: Summer Session A stipend ($3,000)

BRIDGE TO BROPHY PROGRAM SUMMARY:

The Bridge-to-Brophy program is designed especially for students from traditionally under-represented elementary schools and communities in the greater-Phoenix area who demonstrate great promise to succeed at Brophy, but may need some additional support in order to thrive academically. We believe these students will thrive with additional academic preparation, community building, and enhanced support offered by the program. A focus on cura personalis, or care for the whole person, is an important part of the care and formation of every Brophy student. Bridge to Brophy offers a head start into a student's high school career with this care in mind, along with compassion, support, and enrichment.

JOB SUMMARY:

As an ELA/Study Skills Instructor, you will play a vital role in providing academic enrichment through the lens of English and Language Arts to incoming 9th graders, including relevant study skills particular to those areas. Additionally, chaperoning field trips is a requirement of this role. Working during the Bridge to Brophy program offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of young students during their transition to high school and the overall culture of Brophy College Preparatory.

Key Responsibilities Include:


  • Academic Enrichment and Tutoring:

    • Plan and facilitate engaging and educational activities to enhance the academic and personal growth of incoming 9th graders as they enter the Brophy community.
    • Accompanying students through their summer reading assignment (The Alchemist by Paolo Coehlo), basic annotating and note taking skills, reviewing relevant grammar and writing skills, providing guidance on professional conduct as a Brophy student (sending efficient emails; Google, GMail, and myBrophy orientation, introduction to common ELA applications - No Red Ink and Membean)


  • Mentorship:

    • Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to students to help them navigate challenges and succeed academically, personally, and socially.


  • Supervision and Chaperoning:

    • Supervise incoming 9th graders during program hours, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
    • Accompany students and other Bridge to Brophy faculty members on field trips, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, managing logistics, and maximizing learning opportunities outside the classroom.




Qualifications:


  • Current secondary school teacher with at least 3 years experience teaching ELA courses
  • Personal and professional commitment to the work of anti-racism as well as diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB)
  • Enthusiasm for working with youth and fostering their growth
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Academic background in the Humanities (English, ELA, History/Social Studies, Religious Studies/Theology, Modern or Classical Languages)
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Prior experience in mentorship, education, or youth programs is preferred


Duration:

This is a seasonal position for the duration of Summer Session A (May 27 through June 11, 2025) at Brophy College Preparatory, with potential for return the following summer based on performance and program needs.
