ABOUT THE ROLE

MYR Group and our subsidiary businesses strive to provide an opportunity for students to gain education in the electrical utility construction industry by providing a hands-on and inclusive internship program. The knowledge and experience gained through this program will help prepare you for your future career.

Intern must be located in Colorado and in commutable distance to listed office for the duration of this internship. Relocation and lodging support are not provided.

Company Overview

Since 1912, Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc., a subsidiary of MYR Group, Inc, has provided comprehensive electrical construction services to clients throughout the western U.S. Sturgeon Electric has two divisions, offering both power line construction and commercial/industrial electrical construction, making it a full-service electrical provider.

Sturgeon Electric's Commercial and Industrial (C&I) electrical construction division specializes in large-scale commercial electrical projects, telecommunications, traffic signalization, gas distribution, high voltage distribution service and maintenance to clients. Sturgeon Electric has experience performing projects under Integrated Lean Project Delivery methods, and also offers pre-construction services, in-house pre-fabrication capabilities, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) capabilities.

Sturgeon Electric's powerline, or Transmission and Distribution (T&D) construction division provides a full range of capabilities related to transmission, distribution, and substation construction.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with the coordination with district operation personnel to establish safety standards.
  • Assist in the coordination, monitoring, and providing technical support for district safety committees.
  • Learn to conduct periodic job site visits of all crews to identify unsafe work conditions and practices.
  • Assist the safety specialists with facilitation of training & safety topic discussions on a periodic basis.
  • Assist in the review and completion of corrective actions for all injury and illness investigation reports.
  • Facilitate training and safety topic discussions among the crews.
  • Assist in coordination of our rubber glove exchange program.
  • Participation in the Lunch & Learn internship program provided by the MYR Group Internship Leadership team.

Expected Deliverables

  • Shadow skilled safety and promote company values.
  • Interact with safety meetings and proper documentation storage.
  • Walk jobsite for audit review and learn job task presented.
  • Prior to the end of their internship, the intern will create and present a self-reflection project detailing their gained industry knowledge, future career goals, as well as personal and professional growth. The presentation will be provided in PowerPoint and presented to their direct management team.

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications

  • College sophomore or above working towards a related undergraduate degree or be currently enrolled in or attending trade school. If you are a recent graduate, you must be within 1 year of your graduation date.
  • No experience required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare and give presentations.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to communicate with employees and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
