Description

What you will do:



  • Follow direction of log yard lead and/or other supervisors to assure efficient flow of logs and other material to maximize production
  • Communicate, via CB radio, with other staff and outside truck drivers to assure safe log yard traffic is maintained at all times
  • Safely sort and deck delivered logs to designated area of yard and/or mill site
  • Safely transfer logs from decks to designated areas for transport by front-end loaders
  • Safely load logs on to log trucks and/or mill Follow standard work procedures
  • Work with the mechanic and/or maintenance personnel to assure proper servicing of assigned machine is performed as scheduled
  • Become proficient in the operation your assigned machine and at least one other piece of rolling stock and/or equipment center on site
  • Participate (and assist as needed) in the training process with other staff members to assure each piece of rolling stock and equipment center has multiple skilled operators cross-trained
  • Able to inspect, clean, grease and maintain Mill Equipment
  • Other duties as assigned


Education and Related Experience:



  • Minimum 3 years operating heavy equipment, preferably a grapple shovel
  • Have a minimum of 5 years industrial experience, preferably in a chip mill, lumber mill, or similar industrial environment
  • Basic mechanical skills and ability to do routine maintenance work on equipment
  • Experience as a team or crew lead in a production or maintenance setting, preferred


Skills and Abilities:



  • Experience in operating front-end loader, grapple loader, mill equipment and hand tools
  • Proficient in CAT controls
  • Understanding of the operation and maintenance functions of machinery
  • Ability to do routine maintenance on equipment
  • Able to function in a work environment with long hours, and possess an excellent work ethic
  • Good interpersonal skills and problem solving skills
  • Be a reliable and productive team player
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Able to learn and fully embrace the principles of Lean Manufacturing and the principles of 6S


Physical Demands:
This position requires work outdoors in inclement weather. Temperatures will exceed 100 degrees. The environment is hot, dusty, and noisy. Candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis an up to 100 lbs. occasionally. This position may require climbing, crawling, and work at heights.
