Scope of Position:
The Events & Catering Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Events, Rentals and Cafe Services at The Salvation Army Salem Kroc Center. This position will be expected to have, or develop, an extensive business network to increase the use of the Salem Kroc Center by local businesses. This position will work closely with Kitchen staff, and, at times, assist with food preparation in the commercial kitchen. The work includes management of staff, hiring and training staff, developing menus and pricing, inventory and control of supplies, booking events, thorough communication with customers, and driving a motor vehicle. The Events & Catering Coordinator is responsible for event planning and in that role may serve as the "face" of the Kroc Center, requiring excellent customer service and communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Knowledge: Use a computer effectively and efficiently in the working environment; use standard office machines (e.g., fax, copier, multi-line telephone, keyboard, calculator); use standard office practices and procedures; read, write, and speak the English language to express ideas and communicate effectively.

Skill: Proficient with the use of standard commercial kitchen equipment and operating procedures for preparing and serving large quantities of high quality food, type 40 wpm; use Microsoft software (primarily Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher) to correctly create basic documents (menus, flyers, notes, memos, emails) and reports; use basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide); establish effective working relationships; attention to detail; excellent customer service and communication skills.

Ability: Interact with individuals using professional business behaviors and standards. Use interpersonal skills to deal effectively with others in favorable and unfavorable situations. Train, plan, and direct the work of others. Organize, prioritize, and plan your own work. Multitask, i.e., change work focus or respond to changes of conditions and interruptions in workflow. Learn new systems and procedures. Problem solve, i.e., the ability to identify problems and find effective solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Recruit, hire, and train staff. Schedule and supervise staff in the operation of Cafe, banquets, and special events.
* Maintain quality control in receiving and storage of inventory.
* Plan, supervise and operate supplemental food and beverage services for the cafe, and catering events.
* Prepare meals and/or coordinate meal preparation as necessary.
* May need to drive to store to pick up food/supplies.
* Develop menus and cost recovery of products and services.
* Create and complete Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and Event Speciation Guides (ESG). Accurately fulfill BEOs and ESGs.
* Find and establish relationships with businesses that will benefit The Salvation Army.
* Develop and recommend new concepts for increasing revenue sources for food, concessions, catering, and event services to develop a profitable business enterprise.
* Manage catering and event contracts from beginning to end. Responding to inquiries about future events. Manage the client relationship on-site.
* Work directly with the Executive Chef/Food Service Director to develop pricing structure to support realistic and accurate operation forecasts.
* Purchase supplies; responsible for receiving and storing supplies.
* Work directly with the Executive Chef/Food Service Director and Marketing department to develop event, promotional, and rental guides for the facility.
* Conduct component audits and design improvements to optimize financial performance and operational productivity.
* Provide excellent customer service.
* Assist in the development of the department's annual budget. Operate within budget.
* Also involved in the Capital Improvement Plan and prescribing a replacement schedule for associated equipment.
* Review industry and market trends to keep the Salem Kroc Center Events and Catering Department current with trends.

Working Conditions:

* The worker may be subject to a variety of hazards, some of which include a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, exposure to high heat, cooler or freezing temperatures, or exposure to chemicals.

Education and Work Experience:
1. Education - associate's degree in food service, Hotel & Restaurant Management or related field is preferred.

2. Work/Professional Experience - Minimum of three years full-time supervisory experience in Banquets and Events & Catering, or related field. Commercial Kitchen experience preferred.

Licenses & Certificates:
* Current Food Handlers/SERV Safe
* Must have a current Driver license
