The Cancer Center of Kansas (CCK) is seeking a Full-time, on-site Insurance Specialist to join our team in our Wichita, KS offices. The typical work week is Monday through Friday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM with no major holidays, no on-call and no weekends.

What does this position entail?

This role, under general supervision, is responsible for payer and patient account balances being paid timely and remaining current. Performs collection activities such as monitoring delinquent accounts, contacting patients for account payment, resolving billing problems, and answering routine and non-routine account inquiries. Follows standard procedures and pre-established guidelines to complete tasks. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Reviews reports, identifies denied claims, researches and resolves issues, may perform a detailed reconciliation of accounts, and resubmits claim to payer.
  • Contacts third party payers to resolve payer issues, expedite claim processing, and maximize medical claim reimbursement reconciliation of accounts, and resubmits claim to payer.
  • Responds to insurance companies' requests for information in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Reviews EOBs to ensure proper reimbursement of claims and reports any problems, issues, or payer trends to supervisor.
  • Works with co-workers to resolve payment and billing errors.
  • Monitors and updates delinquent accounts status
  • Recommends accounts for collection or write-off.
  • Answers patient payment, billing, and insurance questions and resolves complaints.
  • Sets up payment plans.
  • Updates addresses for returned mail.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Adheres to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) laws and guidelines with regards to patient's records and information.
  • Attends required, applicable meetings.
  • Remains current on all compliance requirements.
  • Ensures all applicable policies and procedures of the company and Network are followed.
  • Other duties as requested or assigned including coverage within the department.
  • Performs other tasks as reasonably requested or assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position will have the following qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum four (4) years medical billing, payment and or verification experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and third party claims processing and collection guidelines preferred.

Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Work Environment: The work environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment. Work will involve in-person interaction with co-workers and management and/or clients. Work may require minimal travel by automobile to office sites.
