Description

SoundOff Signal, a growing ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) firm located near Grand Rapids MI, is looking for Engineering Interns across all Engineering departments.

Product Engineering:

  • Complete the design, prototype, tooling, validation and manufacture of a simple LED lighting product (under supervision and mentoring of a senior engineer)
  • Coordinate, perform and document in-house testing in support of new product development, competitive benchmarking and in-process product changes as requested
  • Photometrics
  • Electronic
  • Mechanical
  • Assist product development with construction of prototype units as requested
  • Build prototype circuit boards
  • Fabricate/assemble mechanical components
  • Assist in the development of electrical component test/validation fixtures as requested

Quality Assurance:

  • Assist with incoming inspection as requested
  • Assist with running diagnostic tests as requested
  • Assist with root cause analysis or electromechanical assemblies/components as requested

Technical Service:

  • Board level repair of Strobe Power Supplies as requested
  • Board level repair of LED products as requested
  • Repair of miscellaneous lighting products as requested
  • Additional miscellaneous tasks that may be assigned
  • Demonstrates SoundOff Signal's Core Values in daily interactions with internal and external customers.

Preferred Skills/Education:

  • Previous experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment involving prototype fabrication, validation and/or design support
  • Previous experience in CAD design, preferably in a 3D package
  • Proficiency in the basic Microsoft software packages including Word, Excel and Project
  • Formal technical training in mechanical engineering/electrical engineering including areas such as
  • High voltage switching power supplies
  • Voltage regulator systems
  • Use of an oscilloscope
  • Use of multi-meters
  • Board level trouble shooting
  • Microchip PIC microprocessors
  • Surface mount board repair
  • Automotive electronics
  • Serial communication
  • Microsoft Visual Basic 4 or higher
  • Read and interpret electronic schematics
  • Device testing and data logging
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • General mechanical aptitude in a shop environment a plus (hand tools, light duty power tools, calipers...)
