Department Summary

The TRIO Talent Search HEB ISD office at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Program Project Specialist. The office of TRIO Programs is a department within the Division of Student Affairs.

Position Overview

This position is for a full time, Program Project Specialist who will be located at Hurst-Euless-Bedford (HEB) ISD schools. The Program Project Specialist will work to provide services to low-income and first-generation high school students, with the goal of preparing them for successful entry into postsecondary education. This position will be on-site at assigned schools located in HEB ISD.

Services provide to participants will include but not be limited to the following:
Recruiting new participants
Promoting the program within the community and target schools
Facilitating workshops on college applications and financial aid
Organizing and facilitating academic support workshops and activities
Maintaining student records by documenting and monitoring participant progress
Planning college visits and cultural activity trips
Compiling and analyzing data
Supporting participants with career exploration
Ensure the success of the TRIO Talent Search program by performing all other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator (PI)/Program Director.

The TRIO Talent Search Program is federally funded by the Department of Education.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field and one year of related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent customer service skills. Ability to provide leadership for student employees and volunteers. Experience in networking across departments and programs. Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population. Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference provided to candidates with TRIO experience (personal & professional),
Degree in education, counseling, psychology of related field,
Experience in college admission and financial aid process
and with success or experience in overcoming barriers similar to the TRIO target population and HEB community.

Job Duties:



  • Provide information about Talent Search to the community including school administrators, students, and community organizations. Nurture strong working relationships within the school staff.
  • Recruitment and Documentation: Recruit and retain a minimum of 230 eligible participants providing them with at least 2 Talent Search services per school semester. Document all services and student information into the Talent Search student database, including necessary files and documents as per the TRIO guidelines.
  • Prepare and administer lessons in the areas of academic success, financial literacy, life skills, career and college exploration following the approved TS curriculum guide.
  • Coordinate and participate in college and career field trips or events for participants during the school year and summer.
  • Participate in trainings, staff development, staff meetings, and maintain good communication between team members and supervisor.
  • Meet with senior students on a consistent basis to guide them to successful high school graduation, college acceptance, college enrollment and receipt of financial aid. This includes assistance in successful completion of college admission test prep, resume-writing, essay-writing, FAFSA submittal, scholarship app submittals and all final steps to secure college enrollment.
  • Responsible for ensuring that TS Objectives and CPPs are met for assigned student caseload and documentation is accurate.


Work Schedule:

M-F, 8AM-5PM The scope of the position requires working evenings and weekends. Occasional out-of-town travel, including overnight stays, is required.
