Job Overview
Performs the duties necessary to maintain all high voltage electrical and peripheral low voltage systems and equipment up to 115KV. Responsible for the care of the equipment and tools necessary to perform such work. Keeps Lead and Supervisor apprised of unique situations and problems encountered. Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Performs a variety of electrical trade functions such as installing, maintaining, or repairing equipment for generating, distributing, or utilizing electrical energy.
- Installs or repairs any of a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, and other distribution equipment.
- Locates and diagnoses trouble in the electrical distribution system.
- Work involves laying out work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions.
- Installs and climbs poles and towers, services storage batteries used for backup power source, performs evaluation of in-service relays to detect failure of distribution lines and equipment.
- Works standard mathematical computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment.
- Works and assists other crafts and trades in their day-to-day operations.
- Operates switches to isolate and remove defective components for repair. Installs and repairs overhead and underground power lines. Installs, disconnects, removes and repairs electrical power meters.
- Respond to emergency situations during or after hours, holidays and weekends for the purpose of resolving immediate concerns. Be available on-call within one hour, after the Governments request to respond to after-hours requests. Must be able to work overtime as required.
- Installs conduit, wiring panels, breakers, and associated equipment required for distributing both high and low voltage circuits.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED).
- Journeyman H.V. Electrician with completion of a four (4) year technical training program. Technical training may include an accredited technical training program or recognized established apprenticeship program.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License with a Class B endorsement, without a major violation or three or more incidents in the past 36 months. (WA license must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
- Communicate, both orally and in writing, in the English language.
- Verifiable work experience of at least three years in an Operations & Maintenance services environment supporting a military base or similar civilian installation.
- Verifiable work experience of at least five years' work experience as a High Voltage Electrician.
- A commitment to be on-call 24 hours/7 days on a rotational basis with a 1-hour response time requirement.
- Citizen of the United States.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check, drug test, and physical as required.
- Must have and demonstrate a Journeyman Electrician's knowledge and ability to:
- Identify high voltage circuits and how they are applied.
- Identify the trade specific equipment and be able to verbally discuss how they are used.
- Verbalize about hazards encountered in manholes and appropriate duct bank safety.
- Demonstrate an ability to read blueprints, electrical schematics, and one-line diagrams.
- Must possess the ability to troubleshoot streetlight circuits and repair same.
- Must possess the ability to properly use the Bucket truck and Derrick/Digger truck.
- Ability to perform periodic preventive maintenance to electrical distribution equipment and associated circuits.
- Ability to splice high voltage cables.
- Ability to terminate high voltage cables.
- Ability to install transformers, switches, electrical meters and to test cables and other high voltage equipment.
