JOB SPECIFICS

The Engineering Aide temp position provides technical skilled labor working on highway survey crew and/or project inspection team assisting with various tasks in the Transportation Division; or working on survey crew for the Survey Division. Additionally, this position will Conduct inspections and collaborate with other technicians in survey, construction and drafting activities. Work is reviewed through inspections and observation for degree of accuracy required and obtained. Work is done under varying degrees of supervision.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at minimum 18 years of age
  • Must be able to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions
  • Must have own means of reliable transportation
  • Must have a valid driver's license

HOURS / DAYS: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs.

ANTICIPATED HIRING RATE: $19.69 - $21.21 Hourly

SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.

JOB SUMMARY

EMPLOYMENT CRITERIA

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age and have the ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions. Must have own means of reliable transportation; individuals operating a motor vehicle for county business must possess a valid driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Postsecondary training in engineering or civil technology, land surveying or land survey technology desirable.
Offers of employment will be contingent upon successfully passing a criminal history background check prior to beginning employment with Washington County.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor construction activities, evaluate methods of construction, materials and work schedule, and assist project inspectors as needed;
  • Perform staking for road construction and location surveys for future projects, and/or survey control networks;
  • Test aggregate, soils, bituminous and concrete to ensure compliance with state regulations;
  • Enter and verify data on computers; perform calculations and other tasks for survey needs for county plot design and construction projects;
  • Document progress, materials, test results and other required reports/logs as required by project, state or federal agencies;
  • Participate in survey fieldwork necessary to maintain construction progress and/or for maintenance and perpetuation of the United States Public Land Survey System.
Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is 15% inside/85% outside. Must be able to perform the following: bending, turning/twisting, kneeling, climbing, reaching out, grasping, fingering and lifting up to 50 pounds. Exposures may include, but are not limited to: construction zones, heavy equipment, live traffic, heat, cold, rain, dust and dirt. Equipment used but not limited to includes: personal computer, printers, telephone, cellular phone, calculator, copy machine, video equipment, personal safety equipment, electronic drafting equipment, material testing equipment, and survey instruments. Additional physical/mental requirements may not be listed above, but are inherent in performing the position's essential functions.
